Family of the Sunflower

Ever since Alektrona watched a movie about faeries, she always believed in supernaturals. When people told her there are no such things as supernatural, she always replied, "If there are no such things as supernaturals, where did the myths and legends come from? Imagination? Hallucination? I don't know! But I would love to know and meet one," She says it with a bright smile but, once she meets their confused gaze, she looks back at them with the same confusion as them. "I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who believes in spirits and faeries... right...? " And look at them expectation in her eyes. Her answer makes others fall speechless apart from her grandmother, who loves Greek mythology. Although Alek believes in the existence of supernaturals, she's never encountered one. God knows how many books she's read about Supernaturals. Alek talked to everything she sees and asks them, "When will you guys finally show up to me and start a conversation? I wouldn't tell anybody! I just want to meet you guys so that I couldn't die happily. So I'll be here, waiting for you guys to show up and talk to me." *********** Alek sneakily entered the room and was greeted by a boy facing toward the window opposite the door that she just entered. She thought he was Kai. She prepared to scare him. But before she tried to do anything, he snapped his neck to where she was standing. She was caught off guard. But what she saw next was enough for her brain to stop functioning. "What the..." Alek could not continue. The boy looked like her dead brother, Aether. *********** "They are not friendly, especially the Shiwasu." Astraea told her niece. "If you can't prove that you are able to replace her, then we are all doomed." Everyone was listening to her with serious faces, even the youngest looked like she knew that would be the end. "I will prove it." Alek spoke with determination in her eyes. ------------------ This is the story about shape-shifters and some parts are written in Japanese in roman alphabet as this book contains a little bit of Japanese culture and tradition. Know Their Powers

When the two future heads came back to the room, all of them were looking at them. They went to their former spot and, the talk resumed.

"So do you need our help or not?" Astraea asked her sister.

"Ash..." Panacea definitely couldn't send her sister's family back because they just took a long time to come here, worrying about her daughter. "Yes." She said with a sigh.

"Perfect." Astraea smiled widely, knowing from the beginning that her sister would not send them away. "Alek, I need you to change. We are going to practice." She sipped down her coffee and told her niece.

Alek first looked at her parents before nodding and went to her room to get changed.

"You told her everything right." Astraea asked her sister without any sign of a joke.

"We may have forgotten to tell her things but, I've told her everything I know." Panacea spoke.

"Mmm." Astraea raised her eyebrows and leaned back on the sofa. She was relieved to hear that. Silence followed after that until Alek came back, fully dressed in her casual wear. Black jeans with a shirt. She didn't have time to think about what to wear and picked the ones that were on top.

"Let's go outside." Astraea smiled and went to the kitchen to wash her cup before following Alek to the garden.

"What am I supposed to do?" Alek asked her family in front of her. Everyone was there, apart from Bia and Kai, who were cleaning up. "Are you guys gonna do anything."

"Oh yeah, we will. For know, I want you to get used to our powers." Astraea answered from the shade of the house. The sun was bright and hot.

Castor stepped out, and in a second, he shifted almost wholly into a snake. It happened so fast for Alek and, she could only blink to check if that happened for real. Even though she had seen her family shift yesterday, she was not that used to it yet.

Alek concentrated on her cousin, who was almost snake in front of her. However, his snake was a little different from Bia's. His scales were dark brown, with his neck wide. But, his neck part was yellow, unlike Bia, who was green entirely. She concentrated on him and gasped when she realised what he was.

The snake man smiled seeing this and, he spoke. "Yes, I am a king cobra."

"Holy shrimp." Alek put her hand over her mouth as she got closer to him with wonder and excitement.

He still had his hands but, his lower body was fully snake. Meanwhile, the upper part of the body was covered in vivid black and yellow. He was his size as when he's human but looked more intimidating when he was like this. The shirt was the only one that was visible to everyone. The rest, he had shifted with it.

As Alek got closer to Jin, she saw his eyes were no longer light brown like always. Instead, it looked purely black. He poked out his forked tongue and, it was dark pink like humans. She sighed in relief. Bia's was blackish red and, it was a little creepy.

She touched her cousin as she did with Bia; being careful with everything. Castor laughed at his cousin's touch and put out his scaly hand to be more friendly.

Just like yesterday, Alek didn't touch the hand and instead moved her body to examine it. His palm was facing her and, it was yellow. The back of his hand was black in comparison, making his hand stand out. In fact, his entire figure was outstanding.

Castor swiftly grabbed Alek's wrist and put her on his back. He moved on the grass gracefully and fast. Alek hang onto his wide neck for dear life but keeping her eyes open to see the surroundings.

She saw her house as a blur, but at the same time, everything was clear. Alek could even see her family members expressions as she could see their eye colour and when they blinked as well.

Jin dropped Alek when he circled the garden once and shifted back. She had her eyes open as she was not able to make it normal. It was faster than the drive she had taken on the highway when they were going to the beach.

Astraea was satisfied with her son 'entertaining' Alek. As she was also a supernatural and a shifter, she saw every move like Alek did right now when he took her on a ride.

Castor could have stayed in his eighty per cent snake form since he would be able to communicate but, he didn't. That was enough showing for the day.

"Alek?" Astraea called out her niece's name.

"Yes?" This time she replied in one call and was absorbing the shock.

"How was that?" She asked her niece.

"That was something that I've never experienced before." Alek answered while remembering how she was able to see things clearly. "I was seeing stuff clearly. How was I doing that?"

"That's actually-"

"Jin was sharing his sight." Astraea cut off her son and replied to Alek.

Alek looked confused. She had read about many supernatural books in the past, but she had never read of one, sharing his abilities. Imagine if that were the case of vampires. She wouldn't even know which one is the real vampire anymore.

"You can do that?" Alek asked.

"WE can do that." Astraea emphasized. "The leading clans have few spare things that ordinary shifters can't do. And one of the things is sharing. We can share our powers with someone if you wish. But it's for a short time and, the things we can share are limited. Didn't your mother tell you this?"

"No." Alek told her aunt and looked at her mother suspiciously.

"I told you that I may have forgotten to tell Alek some things, Ash." Panacea looked at her sister, guilty-free.

"Neechan..." Astraea sighed at her sister trying to get away from her problem. "Jeez."

Panacea was about to roast her sister when both husbands came between their wives to coax them.

"Anyway, how about I show you mine?" Lake spoke up, diverting Alek's attention from her mother.

Alek looked happy hearing that and waited for her uncle to shift. Also, his brother, Robin, was excited to see his brother shifting. It had been long since they had seen each other's forms. The last time was when they used the forms to fight one another.

Lake shifted his lower parts of the body to not creep his niece out. He was a black widow and, shifting fully, would be a little gross as he becomes a metre long spider in size.

He shifted smoothly like his brother and was now standing on six black spider legs. The legs were thin but, he was able to hold his weight just fine.

Alek saw another amazing shifting and was awed by admiration. Her uncle's eyes stayed normal but, he now had another eye in the middle of his forehead. The colour of that middle eye was purely black like a night.

Lake noticed Alek staring into his exposed forehead and told her. "Yeah, it appears every time I shift. It doesn't matter if I've only shifted my hands or legs. One of them would appear."

Alek then diverted her eyes from his third eye and concentrated on the shifted six legs. "It's so thin but, long" She voiced out her opinion before her mouth could zip.

Lake laughed at the comment and danced, what he called the sexy dance of spider, to his niece. "Do you think I can be a model now?" Lake asked her with a wink.

Alek laughed at her uncle and replied. "Definitely."

"Ahh, stop it. I know I can be a model, but I'm too awesome for that." Lake told her while flipping his wavy half-up shoulder-length hair. He flexed his thin legs before his wife told him that was enough.

Alek saw his uncle and aunt chatting happily and saw that they were alike. They were goofy and friendly compared to the quiet and serious parents of hers. Maybe it had to do with the fact that her parents were both their older siblings.

She looked at the two cousins who had not shifted. They looked like they wouldn't shift at all. So she turned at her aunt, hoping she would shift.

"Are you going to me show me your form?" Alek asked the couple talking.

"I wish," Astraea said sadly. "I am a sea turtle. I need the help of seawater to shift. So do Iris and Rin. We are marine animals basically, so we need seawater. We can shift without seawater but, that would be unpleasant."

Alek made an O with her mouth and looked back at her cousins. "What are you guys?"

"Octopus." He answered automatically. Pollux didn't need to say he was a poisonous one as she already knew he was the family member of Mutsuki, animals with poisons and venoms.

"And you, Iris?" Alek bent down and stayed at the same eye level as Iris.

"Jellyfish." Iris told Alek like the way her brother did but failed. Alek could hear happiness and pride filling her voice.

Alek smiled at hearing this. "That's awesome."

Iris blushed hearing this and hid behind her brother.

"I think that's about it for now." Astraea spoke. "We still have many things to do. Let's get going."

"Where are you taking my daughter?"

"To where?" Panacea and Alek asked at the same time.

"To meet our old friends." Astraea stretched in the sun and went back to the house as she talked.
