Chapter ４６

Jessey couldn't get the energy to get ready for work like she usually does. She put on a sundress, tucked her hair into a ponytail, and called it a day. Really, who was she trying to impress? She didn't mind if Dodge thought she wasn't flawless. He was already aware of the reality. She was a fool, eager to accept any falsehood as long as it seemed even somewhat plausible.

No more shaming herself. She had made a mistake and should have known better, but it was too late.

Dodge raised her head as she entered the gallery. "Pardon me if I seem rude, but you look like trash."

"You're not assisting." She took a breather in front of her favorite artwork, but it couldn't take away the anguish in her chest. She slumped into the chair behind her desk, taking the coffee cup he gave. Her phone rang just as she sat down. When she saw Ian on the caller ID, Jessey almost burst out laughing. She attempted a grin while taking a big breath. "Good day, big brother."

"You never returned my call."
