This Isn't A Dream, Is It?

CASTYR'S POV

Kilo is already awake when I open my eyes. He smiles as I look up at him brightly. My eyes widen when I suddenly realize I am glowing, my cheeks reddening as I hope I am not too bright.

"Sorry," I smile shyly as I dampen the light.

"Don't be. I like it when you glow," Kilo smiles sweetly.

I wrap my arms around Kilo and nestle in closer. "I can't believe I've finally got you back. It feels like a dream."

Fear strikes me, and I look up at my angel. "This isn't a dream, is it?" I begin to panic.

Kilo pulls me in and presses his lips to mine. My fingers wrap themselves in his shirt as I kiss him. All my fears fade away, and I melt in Kilo's arms.

"Does this feel real enough?" Kilo asks as he pulls away. I smile and nod as Kilo rests his head on mine. "Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere."

I hum happily and cuddle into the angel. "Where were you?" I ask quietly and cautiously.

Kilo sighs and runs his fingers through my hair before answering, "Somewhere you'll never go."

"I'm so sorry," tears touch my eyes as I think about the scars covering Kilo's body.

"Don't be. They're gone."

"Huh?" I watch as Kilo lifts his shirt.

"You healed me."

I reach out and touch the flawless skin. Kilo places his hand on top of mine and slides my hand up his chest. My heart races as my hand feels his muscular body. Kilo smiles down at me and stops my hand on his heart. I cannot help but blush as I feel his pounding heart.

"You healed this, too. As soon as I saw you, I knew everything was going to be okay. So don't be sorry, hmm?" Kilo says softly.

I nod, and Kilo pulls me in. I close my eyes and run my hands around his chest to his back as I hold onto my angel, my hands still under his shirt. As I nestle into Kilo, I feel small twitches running up the angel's back causing him to shift slightly.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" I pull away and look at him with worry.

"Oh, it's just my wings. They're getting twitchy 'cause they want to come out."

"They can come out if they want to. I don't mind."

"Well...they're kind of big."

"That's okay. We can go to a rooftop." My lips curl into a small smile. I have been wanting to see Kilo's wings in all their glory.

The angel nods and ruffles my hair before getting out of bed. I slip out from under the blanket and follow him out of the tent. Kilo waits for me to exit the tent before interlacing his fingers with mine. I cannot help but giggle and look up at him with a bright smile.

"Let's go," Kilo smiles before leading me through the camp.

We walk for a couple blocks hand in hand just enjoying being in each other's presence. Kilo leads me into a building of slick, black stone. We ascend the stairs and make our way to the roof, taking deep breaths of fresh air as we open the door to the roof.

I follow Kilo to the center of the roof. He lets go of my hand and walks a few steps in front of me. The angel closes his eyes and takes a breath as giant black wings emerge from his back. My mouth opens in awe as I stare at the beautiful wings in front of me. I slowly approach and gently stroke one of the wings. I cannot help but notice the tingles which run down Kilo's spine. His wings must be incredibly sensitive.

"Woah...." They are incredibly soft.

"They like you." I look up at Kilo as he continues, "They normally don't let anyone touch them."

"Ah. Well, they better like me 'cause I'm going to be around them for the rest of their existence."

Kilo smirks sweetly and ruffles my hair. I shiver as a cold blast of wind gushes past us. Kilo takes me in his arms and wraps his wings around us, covering me with warmth. I smile up at Kilo as he kisses my forehead.

Beeping from my wrist device pauses the romantic atmosphere. I reluctantly look at the device to see a summon from Colonel Ilios.

"Ilios wants to see both of us," I say to Kilo.

"One more minute." Kilo pulls me back in.

"Okay," I smile. I continue to stand in Kilo's arms and realize I could stay like this forever. I close my eyes and absorb every aspect of Kilo I can. His musky, honey scent. The sense of safety. His muscular body and warmth. His deep voice and intoxicating, purple eyes. The feeling of comfort and love.

Another summon after a few minutes officially has us leaving the roof and walking back to base. We enter Ilios's command tent and salute him. He motions us to sit, which we do.

"Guardian Kilo, I would like to reinstate you as a captain in Alpha Team under Major Azyr upon his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel," Ilios says.

"I would be honored," Kilo accepts.

"Thank you, Colonel." My heart flutters. Kilo is going to be on Alpha Team!

Ilios nods before adding, "The promotion ceremony will be held in the Division of Defense in Azari. We will return to Azari once new troops arrive to guard Earth. Until then, rest up. You have done well."

We stand and salute the colonel.

"Lieutenant Kilo, the Division of Defense would like a debrief of the past fifty years when we return to Azari," Ilios adds as we prepare to leave.

Kilo nods shortly before leading me out of the tent. He takes a deep breath as we step into the open. As soon as I exit the tent, alarms blare across the base and warnings sound from our devices.

My eyes widen as I check the device on my wrist. "Demons have been spotted at the southern section of the city! Alpha and Beta teams have been called. Let's go!"
