Chapter 39 :Flying Thunder God Magic

The train whistled, followed by the rhythmic clanging of the wheels on the tracks.

Car No. 6.

Knight and Laxus sat on one side, while Juvia and Erza were seated opposite them. The air was heavy with silence, and no one spoke. Knight took out a bunch of magic materials, busy crafting a new ring to complete a system task.

Laxus broke the silence first, eyeing Juvia with hostility. "Why is the S-class wizard from Phantom with you?"

As members of rival guilds, it wasn't surprising for them to be at odds. However, the complicated relationship between Knight and Juvia was anything but typical.

Juvia sat upright, her hands on her knees, sneaking glances at Erza, who sat across from her.

"The Fairy Queen Erza Scarlet… So strong! What is her relationship with Lord Knight? Could she be a rival in love?" Juvia was dying to ask but didn't dare.

"Is something on my face?" Erza noticed Juvia's awkwardness and asked.

"N-no, nothing!" Juvia stammered, too afraid to voice her concerns.

Erza smiled, sensing no hostility. "It's quite interesting to be on a mission with a Phantom Lord wizard," she said lightly. Erza's attitude was friendly, a sign that Juvia hadn't come across as threatening.

Meanwhile, Laxus turned to Knight, his curiosity piqued. "Is your S-class mission so tough that you need outside help?"

Knight continued crafting, not even looking up. "You all came along on your own accord," he muttered.

"Just make sure you finish the mission," Laxus said with a smirk. "Then fight me seriously."

Laxus was eager to test Knight's strength and recruit him to his Thunder God Tribe. But first, he needed to defeat him in combat.

Knight chuckled. "I'll beat you, but not today. I'm busy."

"What are you making?" Laxus asked, glancing at the materials spread before Knight.

"A magic ring. It's a second-generation design for the magic network, made so that ordinary people can use the magic web."

Laxus watched Knight's handiwork for a moment before huffing. "You're doing it all wrong. The magic crystal's alignment is sloppy—you're leaking too much power." Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed the tools from Knight. "Let me do it. I used to take apart magic devices when I was a kid."

Knight raised an eyebrow but relented. "Really? Go ahead then."

As Laxus began reshaping the magic crystal, he mumbled, "Hard to believe you made those first-gen rings. They're practically art pieces, but your technique now looks amateurish."

Knight laughed. "You're not wrong, those weren't entirely my handiwork."

"Shut up, I'm busy," Laxus shot back, focused on his work.

Knight let out a small smile and left Laxus to his task.

Erza, surprised by how well the two were getting along, turned to Knight. "Can you explain the mission to us?"

"It's a long story," Knight began, but then paused. He suddenly remembered something important: they should have brought Gray along. After all, Gray had a personal connection to the situation on Galuna Island—the Moon Drip Ceremony, which his former master Ur had sealed away by sacrificing herself.

"I'll try to collect Ur's soul while we're there," Knight thought. With his Six Eyes, capable of perceiving the flow of magic, it might be possible.

Meanwhile, Laxus continued crafting the ring, and Knight spent time chatting with Erza and Juvia. An hour passed quickly.

"It's done," Laxus finally said, sounding pleased. "Now you finish the rest."

Knight took the ring, impressed by the craftsmanship. "You're good at this, Laxus," he said gratefully. He suddenly recalled Laxus's "Shinmingan Temple" spell, which required numerous magic crystals filled with lightning. No wonder he was so skilled—he must have made them himself.

With Laxus's help, the second-generation universal magic web ring was completed. Almost immediately, Knight heard the system prompt.

[Mission Completed!]

[Evaluation: Excellent]

[Reward: Space-Time Ninjutsu—Flying Thunder God]

[Converting to fit the current world...]

[Space-Time Ninjutsu—Flying Thunder God → Space-Time Magic—Flying Thunder God]

A flood of knowledge filled Knight's mind. He closed his eyes and absorbed the immense complexity of the new magic. Space-time magic was among the most advanced forms of power. After a few minutes, he opened his eyes, filled with excitement.

Flying Thunder God Magic!

It allowed him to place a permanent magic circle on any object, enabling instant teleportation to that location. As long as the magic circle wasn't destroyed, it would remain forever—a type of [Permanent Magic].

"This is some serious power," Knight thought. "The evaluation must have been excellent because Laxus helped."

He chuckled inwardly, already planning to go easier on Laxus in their upcoming fight. Glancing at him, Knight smiled. "Thanks for your help."

Laxus, feeling a sudden chill, narrowed his eyes. "What's with that look? Is there a problem?"

"Nothing, you did a great job." Knight shook his head, still smiling.

With the Flying Thunder God magic now in his repertoire, Knight was already contemplating the next step: embedding it into the magic web's core code. Soon, he could launch a new service—Magic Network Express.

And when the time came, he'd be ready to face Laxus in their long-awaited battle.
