Chapter 6

CLASS B HEAD TEACHER'S LOUNGE, YEAR 5 BUILDING

Elise POV

*Flashback*

"Come in and take a seat, Elise", he ushered me into the room from behind his desk.

Looking around the room, my attention doesn't miss the lack of wall art and a cluster of papers and books on and around his desk, which he was presently seating behind.

With a cup in his hands, he walked towards me, placing the cup on the table before taking a seat in front of me.

"I need you to freeze the water in this cup. Could you do that for me?", he asked carefully.

My face went from surprise to confusion before finally resting on doubt, as many thoughts flowed into my head. Noticing my panicked look and shaky hands, he looked me in the eyes and encouraged me.

"Breath for me Elise. Concentrate on the water and push it. You can do it"

His words rang in my ears as I closed my eyes for a few seconds and focused on my breathing. Looking directly into the cup while visualizing the water moving, a blob of water levitated out from the cup.

"I DID -", my excitement was cut off by a loud splash.

The volume of the splash made us curious to look into the cup. To our surprise, at the bottom of the cup sat a ball of ice.

Walking back to class, I tried to wrap my head around all that just happened a few minutes ago. Not only was I able to control water, but I also turned it to ice accidentally. Before I knew it, the door of my class was right in front of me, my mouth itching to tell the good news to my newly-reunited friends.

*Bell Rings*

As I reach for the door, it bursts open to reveal Hannah, the other girls not far off behind. Hannah abruptly pulls me by the hand and leads me away from the classroom area in a hurry,

"Elise! We have to be fast.", then turning towards the others not far behind, "If you guys don't hurry, I will make her start in your absence"

Noticing the confusion on my face, she shuts me up from asking any questions and continues dragging me along

GYM BUILDING,

FEMALE CHANGING ROOM

After Hannah made sure that everyone was present, she takes a seat beside me, turns towards me with inquisitive eyes and asked me about my talk with the teacher. My eyes slowly pan across the room before resting on Hannah's. The silence was thick as everyone's eyes were on me, expectant of what I was about to reveal.

I slowly told them everything that happened concerning my power discovery, even down to the emotions I felt. As I acknowledged how scared I was at first, I felt a squeeze to my knee that radiated understanding, the source of the comfort being Bri. The end of my heart pour was met with a bone-crushing hug from Hannah, and before long, it became a short group hug.

The connection I felt was beautiful. I knew I could rely on them.

THE FIELD,

PHYSICAL TRAINING CLASS

Every student in year 5 had this class as a general class, this threw me into a crowd of new faces. Unlike the first encounter I had during assembly, I felt more at ease being in this crowd due to the few familiar faces around.

A loud whistle cut off my distracted thoughts.

"Today will be a brief class. I want five laps around the field and conclude it with a bit of stretches."

Loud murmuring echoes around the crowd

I sighed heavily, before stretching my legs to prepare them for the laps.

A whistle goes off to signal the start of the job. Everyone gets into place and starts moving.

By the fifth lap, I can feel my eyes begin to sting as sweat rolls into them, soaking through my top as it sticks to my skin. A burning sensation starting to numb my calves as I push myself to finish the lap. The intensity of the sun suddenly caught my attention, it was getting unusually hotter by the minute.

Around me, some people have slowed down their stride to slow walks, while others have long given up and gone to sit on the benches. But ahead of everyone, someone was running energetically without breaking a sweat.

I barely managed to get to the bench and just resorted to crashing on the floor. Exhaustion washed over me and my muscles ached from the workout that just ended. Like clockwork, the weather became cooler as everyone came to the benches for rest. Despite my exhaustion, I was still curious about the person who was ahead of everyone during the exercise.

"That never-ending energy bar is O. You see, his ability is speed."

An unexpected voice slyly replied from behind, scaring me from my thoughts. Snapping my neck towards the responder, I narrowed my eyes at her. I need to stop thinking loudly around her. Sophie just shrugged and turned away with a smirk.

We were instructed to partner up for stretching. Luckily for me, I got paired with Bri. Starting with light stretches, I could feel my muscles relax. Bri recommended that we level up our stretches, which I agreed to. What surprised me was when she went down into an elevated full split. Looking up at me as if to tell me to mirror her stance,

"Bri, there is no way in hell I am doing that. How can you even do that?"

I am pretty sure there is a limit to human flexibility. Right?

"My ability allows me to be more flexible than most. You know the puppet thingy."

She told me gazing up at me while looking so comfortable in the position she was in. I guess that makes sense.

Thankfully, the rest of the exercise went by and I didn't have to be in any impossible positions that I couldn't physically do. However, I kept getting this weird feeling that someone was watching me, but every time I tried to look for the culprit, I never caught anyone staring back.

*Bell rings*

The exercise session sucked the life out of me leaving my stomach empty. While freshening up in the changing room with the girls, Hannah did the honours of introducing the other girls to me and we bonded very quickly.

DINING HALL

LUNCHTIME

The large variety of dishes allowed for personal choices of food for individual tastes. I was in the mood for carbs and greasy food, so I opted for French fries and some chicken nuggets. You can never go wrong with some salty fries.

Conversations go on around me as I focus on finishing the food on my plate. Taking a sip out of my drink, I feel a breeze of air graze past startling me,

"Jesus Christ! You startled me!"

Senza whispers back an apology while holding on to Hannah's waist, face partly buried in her hair. My panic catches Hannah's attention, who apologizes before scolding him. She lightly smacks his head, calling him a Ghoul but he just snuggles in closer into her hair. Looking back at the table, I realized that thankfully, the drink didn't spill. The contents of the bottle caused my eyes to widen in surprise. My entire drink was frozen solid.

"Hmm...Guys, I need to get another drink. I... might have...accidentally frozen this one"

I announced to them, the frozen drink in hand as I made my way to get a new one. I could hear Max suppress a giggle from behind her book as I walked away.

As I made my way to the vending machine, I felt eyes following me. Unsure of how to respond, I pushed the feeling down, not able to look for the source of the stare.

Slowly, I could hear footsteps making their way in my direction. Regardless, I suppressed the need to turn around even as the steps drew closer.

At the last minute, I turned towards the stranger, gazing down to the floor as I couldn't bring myself to look them in the eyes. The tension between us was so thick.

"Bab- Elise... Hi..."
