"Are you kidding me, you kidnap four people then drop them in here?"
"No, No, no," The voice sounded dismissive "I didn't kidnap you, you're the one who volunteered to make the story better."
"What? I did not sign up to be here!!"
John shouts angrily
"You remember the email that you sent?"
"That it?"
"Yeah, it's one of the requirements, I thought it would be funny to include you." The phone said
"...." John froze, "You got a pretty low standard"
"Oh, believe me, my standards are rather high. You being here is not just luck, it's destiny"
"You think I'll believe your bullshit!? send me back to my world."
John barked, pacing around the alley.
"Then what are you gonna do?"
"...." John opened his mouth wide, but nothing came out. John racked his brain and he couldn't say anything. He had no significant other besides his parents, and he hadn't seen his family in years.
"Exactly, you have no goal. That's why I'm giving you one. Create the perfect ending"
"What if I don't want to? Could you send me back?"
"Haha," The voice on the phone laughed "No, I don't have enough power to send you back. I use the last of mine to create this thing that is talking to you right now and three others. Sending you back is impossible, If you desperately want to be back, you need to reach godhood."
John grits his teeth, it seems like he needs to try harder to go back home.
"You're pretty useless then"
"Let's say I have the power left, would you go back? You have a chance of building an ending that you want, in your favorite novel that you read for 4 years. Are you sure?"
"...."
The answer should have been yes, but John couldn't do it. He is indeed attached to the book that he dearly read for 4 years. But could he do it?
"You said that I'm here by destiny right? Why me?"
"Chance"
"Are you messing with me?"
"No, I'm saying that you got selected because you have the lowest chance of reaching an ending. Imagine If I haven't reached out to you right now what would you be doing?"
"Building my business?"
"And slacking off on your pile of meaningless money."
"What do you expect me to do? I can't reach godhood because I can't recover my circle, how could a circleless guy reach godhood? In your book, that's a recipe for an eldritch horror. Are you telling me to die?"
John lashed out, in the book there many examples of why someone needs a circle to advance in the realm of mysticism. Their body needs something to hold mystic power and a circle or a star is that. Like a cup that holds water.
"You didn't even try," The phone said with a cold voice this time "You could interact with the world, be more creative. You might become an abomination but I will respect that over what you're doing right now."
"Are you my dad?"
John said sarcastically.
"No, I just pity your existence." The phone voice came back to being cheerful "You among the people that read my novel have the lowest chance of reaching the end. 50 million people read it. Could you imagine that?."
"Your statistic is bullshit"
"That's just called destiny. Your luck is the worst out of all of them here. One had a perfect 50% and the other two tied for first at 91.2%. You on the other hand got 0.2%. This statistic is calculated from personality and how you live your life."
John couldn't help but shudder after hearing the Author's words.
"Why didn't you select the guy that got more chance than me, is this fun?"
"Yes," The phone said "But, actually it's just destiny, the two first places I manually pick while the other two are chance."
"So it's luck"
"No"
John scratched his head, his brows knit together.
"What the hell is it then, did you select me because I got the lowest chance or did you select me because of luck."
"I told you that it was destiny, and as I previously mentioned, even if my calculations might not be correct because I wasn't expecting you to be the first guy to contact me, you can trust that your chances are extremely low. I'm running out of time, good luck out there... Oh, I almost forgot this phone has a pretty good feature that would help you reach the end. You need it. Hopefully, you don't die a dog's death."
The phone went black again. John's back finds a wall nearby to hold him up. His body slides down into a sitting position. He grabs onto the phone hard. But no matter how hard he tried the phone didn't break.
He composes himself and gets up. When he almost exits the alley into the main street he looks back. He thought he could walk this off but, he couldn't hold it in...
"AGhhhhhhhhhhhhh"
He screams very loudly and throws the phone on the wall. After it bounces off he kicks it to the side and continues to stomp on it.
He hates it, he hates how it feels. All his life, he was not the smartest, not the strongest but he always lived happy. He didn't want anything more than a normal life. Just a guy you see in the city building game walking the street.
Because he was happy.
But now, the author proposes an idea and he hates it. The idea that he could be a god. An idea that he could archive it. He doesn't know why but the very idea itself frustrates him. Even more so, it says that he has the worst chance of reaching the end.
I read the novel
I know most of the stuff that happened
Could I each godhood and make a better story?
He pants after throwing rage out of his system. He collected his thoughts and mind again. After talking to the author John has something in mind. He didn't like the idea of becoming a god, not at all. It sounds like a pointless existence. you can do anything but nothing matters at all.
Why live such a life?
He had an epiphany after thinking such. Isn't he already living such a life? Does his work, his co-workers, his boss, his world, and his parents matter to him?
No
He was just an office worker organizing a file in one of their section. He barely had human connection other than necessity. He is going nowhere with his life. He hated that the author was right.
His hand clenched until blood came out.
I got the lowest chance? let's see about that, I'll make a better story than you, you piece of shit, Author.
