Portal

"In other news, we are approaching a long awaited Portal day hosted by Dynamix Corp! Marking the 6th anniversary since the first Portal to the world known as Extara was first released to the public 12 years ago! " The radio could be heard in the background.

Waking up and almost jumping out of the bed, Seth looked at the alarm realizing he had almost overslept. "Shit I am going to be late. "

Brushing his teeth Seth looked in the mirror running his fingers through his blonde hair spitting out the toothpaste admiring how handsome he looked in the mirror. "Yeah I am going to do really well in Extara. "

"Seth, are you up honey you're going to be late if you don't get moving! " His mother could be heard from the other room.

"Yeah I am all ready! " Seth shouted back putting his shoes on and running out kissing his mom on the cheek. "The next time you will see me I am going to be two years older and much richer! " He said smiling.

"Don't get cocky. People die there everyday, just promise us you will come home in one piece. " His mother said, giving him a folder with a Dynamix Corps logo on the front with the words 'Congratulations' written on the front of it in big golden letters.

"I know mom, I am just excited some people come back and can even stop bullets like they are nothing. Who wouldn't want to go and become a superhero? " Seth said with a hopeful smile following his mom to the car.

"Your father and I are worried you wont come back and see us.. The Portal opens every two years and only about 4% of people who enter actually decide to come back you know. " She said with a sad expression.

"You don't have to worry about that mom, there is no way I will miss the chance to show off to all my friends! Who knows maybe I will be able to come back with enough items to sell and be able to buy you and dad your dream house! " Seth said while they drove down the highway as the Dynamix building came into sight towering above the rest of the buildings in the town.

"That would be nice, just promise me you won't do anything stupid. Just because you got lucky and somehow got an invitation to go to Extara it doesn't mean you will be that lucky over there, you need to be safe and listen to the more experienced people on the other side. " She said knowing if she turned the car around and just took her son back home he would probably hate her forever for making him miss out on his dream.

"I know I know, I have already promised you many times and I have read the guide book a thousand times already! I will be fine. " Seth said rubbing his cheeks that hurt from smiling so much as they parked in the VIP parking area where a woman dressed in a black pants suit was waiting.

Reaching over and hugging her son she whispered with a tear falling off her cheek, "You better come back you hear me? I'm not allowed to go past this point.. I love you Seth."

"I love you too mom, I promise I will come back with lots of fun stories! " Seth said, hugging his mother back before exiting the car and handing his packet over to the Dynamix employee who was quietly waiting for him to be done with his Goodbye's.

"Mister Snow, please follow me. " She said, turning and walking over to an elevator located near one of the entrances of the building.

Nodding and following behind her Seth had just realized that the building had armed guards behind the pillars of the building leading up to the elevator. "What is with the gun? "

"As you know every two years when the Portal opens Dynamix has some issues with people who think it is their right to decide what world they live in. It is their job to ensure that those kinds of people do not reach the Portal. Dynamix Corp has a contract with the government to obtain certain resources every two years in exchange for our continued operation allowing us to act as our own entity under US sanction. We limit the amount of people allowed to go over every two years depending on how many people decide to come back home. " She said pressing the only button in the elevator two times then pausing and pressing it four more times causing the elevator to start descending.

"I guess that makes sense.. " Seth replied realizing he really did get lucky since most people have to go through various tests before being allowed to go to Extara.

"Since you have won the pass and did not work for it as everyone else has had to do, there will be a lot of information you do not know about Extara. Feel free to ask as many questions as you feel necessary before we get to the Portal. " She said as they continued lower into the facility.

"How is it that people are able to come back with superhuman power? " Seth asked knowing it was probably the most asked question in history at this point.

"When you get to the other world you will be given a set of starter equipment depending on what style you think would best suit your abilities or those you wish to possess. From there you will be given one day with an instructor as the winner to give you a small amount of training about how to obtain skills and use them. Skills are not easy to obtain and require a fair amount of work or luck, but make no mistake gaining a useful skill will ensure your permanent employment for Dynamix if you decide to return. In Extara you will find it is much like the Virtual Reality games you can find on the market. There are things such as potions, experience and leveling, status, royalty, and monsters which you couldn't have dreamed would exist. As for the reason you can return with these abilities we have determined that with the creation of the Portal we have linked the two worlds and a small amount of what you would call Mana is released into our world allowing a person's abilities to be used. Dynamix is doing research as to the amount of Mana being transferred and how it will affect the Earth but all tests thus far have shown no negative effects. " She replied in seemingly one breath as the elevator stopped and the doors opened revealing a massive portal at the other end of the room with around 80 people gathered around, some of which already having armor on.

Looking at the portal Seth's jaw hung open a little as he could see through it to the other world known as Extara, the sight was something he could only dream of, large birds flew in the distance and mountains of vibrant green and yellow showed further out past the town with an older medieval look to them.

"Follow me and I will introduce you to your instructor for the day. " She said, leading him through the crowd of people to a tall and toned bearded man.

"Alex, this is the lucky kid who will be in your care for the day. Try not to get him killed on day one. " She said, giving Seth a smile before leaving him with the man called Alex who wore leather armor and had two daggers fashioned to his hips.

"Im Seth! Pleased to meet you sir! " Seth said excitedly, putting his hand out and shaking Alex's.

"Good to meet you too kid, so how old are ya? " Alex asked curiously.

"I am 19 sir, my birthday was six months ago! " Seth replied with a smile.

"Hmm okay, well let's head over to the other side. The air there is much better and I like it there so come with me. " Alex said while running up to the Portal and waiting on Seth to catch up.

Seeing Alex pass through the other side and watching Alex walk over to a building Seth took his hand and slowly pushed it through to the other side feeling the warmth of the other worlds sun against his skin.
