The Storm

Ethan

My heart bled for Demyan as I watched him slowly shut me out as he went further and further in his invisible little shell as he ate. I wondered how the beautiful man I saw walking down to me on the red carpet just a few months ago had turned into the depressed man next to me.

No one could ignore the loss of colour in Demyan's bright eyes. He did not have that spark anymore, that thing that made you think about him for minutes, hours sometimes days long after he was gone. His smiles and laughs were so limited now that it felt like a privilege to hear it.

Often I wondered what went through his head when he became quiet. I wondered what caused him to toss and turn in the middle of the night and at that point I woke up as well. He was so deeply troubled sometimes his shoulders hunched forward that you could see the weight of it on him.
