Chapter 3:Personal Maid

After everything was settled, Orson left the chamber leaving Jasmine with Lord Deimos.

Jasmine was elated and at the same time wary. She was happy that her plan of getting close to Lord Deimos had worked out itself. On the other hand, she was afraid everything was too good to be true. She was wondering what the man would do to her once he found out she is scheming against him or trying to use him.

"We need to get to work."

Jasmine snapped out of her stupor hearing his words. She wondered what he meant by work, so she decided to ask.

"What can I help you with, my Lord?"

Deimos stood up from the chair without saying a word. He matched towards her and stood in front of her.

Jasmine wanted to move back but it seemed her body had become numb. Her mind was screaming danger while her heart was beating loudly that she was scared he would hear it if he came too close to her.

Oblivious to the little girl's tension, Deimos leaned towards her face gazing straight into her eyes. A wicked yet seductive smile formed on his lips worsening the situation.

"What kind of work can you do, little girl?" his question came out more like a dangerous whisper making Jasmine shiver.

Jasmine swallowed hard contemplating what to say. She had never stood so close to a man before except her father. To top it all this man was terribly handsome.

She tried to open her mouth, but nothing came out.

Deimos took a step back and his usual cold expression took over. Jasmine let out a sigh she didn't know she had been holding. She preferred his cold face rather than his complicated smile that screamed trouble and danger.

"What's your name?" Deimos asked out of nowhere.

"What?" take by surprise, Jasmine asked back.

"Your name!" Deimos asked again gritting his teeth in annoyance.

"Jasmine," her voice was not loud but good enough for Deimos to hear.

"Hmm...Jasmine," he said as if repeating what she just said. "So, lady Jasmine, your simple work is to be my personal maid."

Jasmine blinked twice trying to register what he just said. Wasn't she supposed to be a recruit warrior to prove women were more than capable to be good warriors.

"My lord, I thought you were going to test my skills in terms of fighting." 'What's with this maid thing?' the last words were only said inwardly.

It was not that bad to be a maid especially for an honourable person but for Jasmine, this was not what she wanted. If she worked as a maid, the chances of meeting her grandfather, the King of Sel, would be almost impossible. She wanted to follow Deimos wherever he went because that was the only way she could see the king.

"As far as I can recollect, you are under my command for the next thirty days. You have no say in any matter unless you have given up already." Deimos spoke in one go. He had never spoken so many words in one day let alone an hour. His jaws were already starting to get uncomfortable.

Jasmine took a deep breath to calm her nerves before she said something she shouldn't. Once she started talking, she knew she would find herself in some dark dungeon. For now, she would play along. Just for now. It was only the first day. As long as she's inside the walls of the palace, the chances of meeting the king were not null.

She sighed heavily and said, "My lord, I dare not refuse," bowing her head.

"That's wise of you..." Deimos paused and his next words crashed the little hope Jasmine had, "Since my house is a bit away from the palace, I will have someone take you there right away."

Jasmine's eyes widened while her mouth formed an 'O'. Shock was visible on her little dirty face.

"My lord, you...you do not live in...in the palace?" her cracked voice more like a plead reached his ears.

Deimos turned around and headed to the desk that was in the left corner of the room. He sat down and took a scroll from the table and busied himself.

He had already guessed the little girl's intentions. He became suspicious the first time she accepted to be around him for thirty days, without hesitation. If it were any other person, they would have been scared to death, but this little girl could not hide her anticipation. He immediately understood she wanted something from the palace but what she wanted is what he wanted to find out.

If it were any other person, they would be somewhere in an underground dungeon being tortured to reveal their intentions. But she was an exception. He did not sense any malice from her but rather she intrigued his interest. He was eagerly waiting to see what she would do next. He just hoped he wasn't wrong in judging her.

'Don't disappoint me, little girl.'

With that thought, he dropped the scroll and walked towards the door. He opened it and whispered something to a guard who was standing there. The guard nodded and left hurriedly.

Deimos turned and walked back to his desk sitting leisurely as if he had not just crashed someone's hope.

Jasmine was already planning on how to commit murder and get away with it. She had just been played when she thought she was the one playing. She was aware the man already suspected her intentions. Nothing could escape his eagle like sharp eyes. After all, he was the mighty Lord Deimos.

"The carriage is being prepared for you. Did you bring anything with you?" Deimos broke her little thoughts.

"My clothes are with my friend," she replied her thoughts drifting to Laris.

If Laris got to know the situation she was in, Jasmine was sure she would cause ruckus or might even say things she wasn't supposed to.

"My lord, can I please speak to her before I leave?" she asked politely hoping he would grant her request.

"No!" his abrupt refusal disheartened her. "You do not even need to bring anything with you. Everything will be provided for you."

Jasmine felt her eyes get misty cursing herself for the trouble she had gotten herself into. This was not going to end well for her.

'Is this the end of me? Should I tell him why am here? Will he even believe me?' Jasmine said inwardly but pushed those thoughts away instantly. It was better she focused on finding a solution to this problem.
