“Never too old to look!” She had chuckled with a lascivious wink. Then after she’d watched the routine Brandi was working out with the two young men, she finally said they could try it.

Sonora Spice now advertised a special ladies and couples night to be held two Fridays a month. There would be karaoke and an amateur “so you think you can dance” competition for individuals of both sexes and for couples, and two performances by Brandi and the Country Boys.

If the first few events were a success, the practice might become a fixture. Although her career was not really riding on the outcome, Brandi had invested a lot of time and effort in the idea. Now she could only pray it would succeed. She wasn’t sure who she prayed to—maybe the dim image of a female deity that had taken shape in her heart years ago, a wise and understanding matron who counterbalanced the harsh and vengeful patriarchal God she heard too much about in every church she’d ever attended.
