"Are they ready?"
The voice from the trailer carried a strong sense of provocation.
Without stopping, it continued:
"The hunting team has 40 years of experience tracking fugitives. Jack Collins, a former criminal investigation expert, has maintained a 100% capture rate in tracking down suspects."
"We also have Jason Miller, the 2019 champion of 'The Strongest Brain.' In just 15 minutes, he reviewed 20 surveillance videos simultaneously, accurately identifying which of the 100 people appeared in each video."
"Additionally, we have James Mitchell, a computer genius who helped England establish a national surveillance system. He can tap into any surveillance equipment, including ATMs, dash cams, and roadside cameras. He has access to 3.2 billion surveillance feeds nationwide."
"Our team has also hired the world's most expensive private detective, Michael Steele."
"He's described by the media as someone even Sherlock Holmes might struggle to compete with."
"People say if there's a perfect crime in this world, it would be pulled off by Michael Steele."
At this point, the screen shifted:
"No one can completely disappear in modern society. All the stars and amateur contestants will experience the suffocating pressure of being hunted."
Then, sirens blared.
The trailer ended.
Gabriel took a deep breath.
At the same time, Hugh Jackman's voice could be heard from outside the house.
"No, seriously, don't panic. This is just a variety show. We need to escape, but there are too many of us to run away together."
It sounded like Robert Downey Jr.'s voice: "There are nine of us. If we split up, we'll be picked off one by one. I think we should escape together."
Gabriel overheard this and opened the door.
He realized he was in a villa, with cameras placed all over the room.
Downstairs, the celebrities and the two other amateurs had large backpacks in front of them, clearly packed for the upcoming escape.
"Here we go! Everyone's here, let's start grouping."
In the crowd, Jenna Ortega was the first to spot Gabriel. She was wearing tight black jeans and boots, showing off her long legs. She looked youthful and energetic.
As Gabriel stepped out of the room, the audience watching the live broadcast saw him for the first time.
"Huh? Six celebrities and three amateurs! These amateurs are really lucky to be spending so many days with stars."
"Don't forget, this is a variety show. They're not here to enjoy themselves with the celebrities—they're all going to have to escape. Luck's got nothing to do with it."
"Exactly! Didn't you see the trailer? The hunting team looks unbeatable."
Gabriel descended the stairs.
Even now, it felt surreal. The same famous celebrities he had seen on TV in his previous life were now standing right in front of him, living in the same house.
According to the rules of the variety show, the days ahead wouldn't be easy for anyone.
The female stars in front of him included Jenna Ortega, Zendaya, and Scarlett Johansson.
The male stars were Hugh Jackman, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth.
As for the amateurs, there were three: Gabriel himself, along with a man and a woman.
The other two amateurs had already gotten to know the celebrities.
The amateur male was Liam Carter, known as a programming master.
The female amateur was Olivia Parker, a petite but stunning woman who held her own even when standing next to the famous actresses.
Gabriel had read her profile earlier. She had studied in the United States and specialized in psychology.
When Robert Downey Jr. saw Gabriel approaching, he signaled that everyone was now gathered.
Gabriel felt a bit helpless.
He had seen his profile in the trailer—an IQ of 144—but he knew the truth. He had simply traveled through time, and before all this, he was just an ordinary white-collar worker. There was no way he had a genius-level IQ.
Suddenly, a voice sounded in his mind.
"Testing the host's body functions."
"Test complete."
