Getting A Job

Stacy landed on the couch in a thud. The expression on her face clearly shows she didn't have a good day. She flung off her shoes and stared at her phone again. Could they be freaking serious about not hiring her? What was wrong with the CV she submitted?. Was she not qualified enough? She thought.

"You will get another." A little voice spoke in her head and tears welled up in her eyes. A sound was heard and her mother walked in.

"Why are you back so soon? Were you not hired?." Helen asked.

Stacy bit her lips in annoyance. She should have known her mum would be home. She sniffed back the tears and managed a smile.

"Well, it's their loss, I'm sure I will get another very soon. Sooner than we expect."

Helen walked up to her and gave a light hug. "You don't have to force yourself to smile. I know how worried you are about me and everything going on but Stacy, I will be fine and we will be fine, with or without you having a job."

Stacy looked up at her mum as she couldn't hold the tears in anymore.

"Mum, nothing is actually fine and you know that. Am I not old enough to take good care of you as a daughter? Only if Joe wasn't a jerk. Only if he wasn't." Tears flooded her cheeks.

She thought he was to be trusted after being a coworker for almost four years. They were both planning to open their eatery, having saved for three years only to hear that her money, her plans and Joe were nowhere to be found till date.

What could she do?..

"I have told you severally to forget about that scumbag. You trusted him way too much and this is how we have to pay for it. Don't worry girl. Everything will be fine someday, I know".

"I hope so mum. I just hope so." I blunted out sharply.

Stacy wept holding on to her mom.

Helen gave a smile. "Okay...enough of being a baby. Tara wants you to prepare some dishes for her clients. You prefer that?."

Stacy's face lit up at the news. If there was anything she loved doing, it was cooking.

"Yeah. It's better than sitting here doing nothing. So what's the deal?."

***************

"Dad, you called for me. "Marcelo sat in his Dad's office, sipping the hot coffee laid for him.

"Yes, your flight to Chicago is prepared already. We have unfinished deals over there."Mr Jones said.

Marcelo dropped the cup. "Dad, you don't have to drag me into any messy tale you are trying to make because I won't take any of that. I have things to take care of here, you can't just boss me around like that."

His brows creased. Dark brown hair, cream gold eyes, muscled broad shoulders, that's a good description of him. His moistened lips got him more attention than even his financial status.

Mr Ben paced round the room, silence reigned in the room like a fog. Marcelo knew his dad would do all it takes to get what he wants.

"Son, we have to get these codes before any other company does. Having companies of your own doesn't mean you shouldn't explore more even if you are one of the youngest billionaires in the whole of Mexico and remember, you aren't always safe."

If someone could eavesdrop at this minute, Mr Ben would have been said to be a caring dad who wants the best for his son but Marcelo knew who his dad was.

"My money wasn't gained from any other source but hard work. Dad, you and I have absolutely everything we ever wanted. Why can't you just sit still and forget about the past? This can't help, you can't just keep competing and risking our lives in the business world."

He rose up and walked to the door when he heard him speak.

"Even if you aren't after them, They will be after you, mark my words."

Marcelo walked out, slamming the door. He knew his father's thirst for revenge and greed and that's something he and his father can't agree on.

A lady walked up to him, winking sweetly.

"What did you bring out Mr Marcelo?" She laughed, making him stop, long silver hair, brown eyes, and tall, that's Cathy, Marcelo's best friend from high school days. She is the only one Marcelo gets playful with apart from Ella.

"Do you have to behave so childish when you are around me?" Marcelo grinned, pulling her to his office. They sat opposite each other.

"Who else will I do that with if not you? So..start talking. Your Dad wants you in Chicago, right?" She darted her gaze at him.

"And how did you get to know about that? Are you also part of their plans?"

Cathy laughs."Never, I heard your dad tell Nicky to prepare your stay in Chicago and believe me when I say he is really keen on your leaving this time and I am sure he will find a way. Don't doubt your Dad's tricks."

"No, I don't, I have a life here, Cathy. I have my work and numerous deals that I have to complete. I can't just get a break?"

He raked his hands through his hair. Being a billionaire at 28 was his long life dream but thanks to his dad, it's now becoming another story entirely.

"I also think you need that break as well." Cathy said, looking at him.

Marcelo sighed. "Cathy, you and I know I'm done with any kind of romance. I don't want to talk about it, don't force it because I will never be interested."

Thinking back at all the fantasies he had about romance at a tender age, he knew he wasn't just cut out to be happy while being Mexico's Marcelo. Could disguising in Chicago help him secure the happiness he ever wanted?

Cathy saw the same expression he had on him years ago. It was evident, he was still hurting.

"Even if the girl is me?" She laughs heartily, giving a weird pose.

Marcelo looked at her as if she was crazy. "What are you talking about? You and I know you aren't my type at all. He laughed, dodging the high heels she threw at him. "Do you want to get me killed?." He said laughing out loud.

"At least, I will be glad you are in a coma for sometime and by the time you wake up, I will be taken then." She stuck out her tongue and walked out.

"Cathy!..Cathy!..Wait for me!" He laughed, running after her.

Catching up with her, he noticed she halted the moment they were out of the firm.

"Marcelo!...Down!" Cathy screamed as gunshots were being fired in their direction.
