Chapter 98
"I feel stupid to have trusted my mother after she came," Cassius said. "I was wary of her, but I never thought she'd done something so terrible," Anastasia said.
"To go as far as to kill her own son?" Cassius cursed under his breath, raising his hand to his hair and running it through it.
"I'm sorry," Anastasia murmured.
He looked at her in surprise. "For what?"
"I know how much her betrayal hurts you."
"It does, but it's already done," he said.
"I'm not surprised. I've experienced far worse betrayal than that."
"The mother I once loved died the moment she faked her death," he continued. "Now she feels like a stranger to me."
Anastasia felt a stabbing pain in her chest at his words. "I'm even more sorry because you spent years mourning her, thinking she was dead."
"She believes she's doing the right thing, staying loyal to Ksenai."
