Chapter 84
Cassius turned, catching sight of a woman on the ground.
They approached her, and Anastasia bent down, noting the bite mark on the woman's neck.
"She's infected," she said to Cassius. "We should help her."
"We'll have to kill her before she spreads it to someone else," he replied.
"What? No," Anastasia said, her gaze returning to the woman. The woman's skin was so pale it had started turning blue. "We should find another way. We can't keep killing them."
"There's no other way," Cassius said. "What if she turns here?"
Her eyes fell on the bite mark, and Anastasia's eyes softened at the sight of blood. The woman's eyes were unfocused, fluttering open and shut.
"I'm sorry that you have to go through this," Anastasia whispered. The woman slowly turned her head toward her.
She tried to speak, but she couldn't form any words. Instead, she grasped Anastasia's hand. Warmth spread from Anastasia's palm to the woman's skin.
