Lying jerk

The Next Day at NYPD company***

Noah was walking in the hallway to Carl's office. He was on the phone with Sam, the cop who got shot by Shawn. He had a bright smile on his face after confirming from the cop that he was okay and that he would be discharged soon.

Luckily, the cop survived the gunshot wound and because of that, Noah was in a good mood until his eyes met Sasha who was giving him a cold stare in the hallway. Although, she wasn't intentionally serving Noah that cold look, that was just her resting bitch face.

Sasha has been away for a while and she just returned to New York after completing an undercover mission in Seattle.

She was in Carl's office a few minutes ago before she saw Noah in the hallway. While she was in Carl's office, she brought him a gift from Seattle because she missed him so much and she was trying her best to create a space for herself in Carl's heart.

"I gotta call you back," Noah said to the cop on the phone and ended the call.

"What's up, commander? Long time no see. I'm really excited to tell you that none of us missed you and you shouldn't have come back to New York" Noah said to Sasha grinning from ear to ear like he was joking when he wasn't.

"Detective, you of all people should know that I don't give a damn of what anyone thinks of me and now that I'm back, things are going back to the way it supposed to be… oh and I heard that Prosecutor Carl left you in charge for a capturing an abuser and it took you almost all night to do so," Sasha said, smirking.

"At least my mission took me a night while yours took you more than a week," Noah said and walked out on Sasha.

"Bitch!" He muttered as he was leaving and Sasha clenched her jaw after hearing Noah.

..

Inside the staff room, Dexter was in high spirits as he replayed the scenario in his head of Carl acknowledging him for doing such an amazing job in helping Noah and the cops to defeat Shawn Colbert.

Dexter has always admired Carl as one of the most respected prosecutors and hearing him complimenting him made him feel good about himself.

Carl wasn't the only one that was proud of him, his colleagues at work were also praising him because of how smart he was for planting a tracking device in Treasure's bracelet.

Funnily enough, those colleagues who were applauding him were the same people who bashed him for being too young to be a detective but now they have seen his potential and they have no other option but to respect and treat him equally.

But as humble as Dexter, he is not going to let the praises he was receiving get into his head. His sister, Anne has taught him to live a simple and modest life no matter what.

Presently, Dexter was impatiently waiting for Audrey to come to work so he could give her full detail of what really happened last night without leaving anything out. He was very excited to share how everything went because hunting down Shawn was his first ever mission ever since he started working at NYPD.

Shortly, Dexter saw Audrey coming inside the staffroom looking as beautiful as always. She was wearing an ash color corporate dress and her blond hair was let down.

"Good morning, Audrey," Dexter greeted her as she sat down in her seat right next to Dexter.

"Good morning Dexter," she muttered and kept her bag on her desk.

"Have you seen the latest…"

"…The latest news of how you put an end to the psychopath that shot Detective Noah? Yes, I have," Audrey interrupted before Dexter could finish his sentence. He was very excited to share the big news but Audrey just cut him short and his enthusiasm left him.

"It's viral news so you shouldn't bother telling it to me," She rudely said to Dexter.

"Well, I thought… I could uh…"

"…Dexter! I'm quite busy. I have a lot of scripts to write so please leave me alone" Audrey interrupted again, with a straight face without looking at Dexter.

Puzzled, Dexter scratched his hair with anxiety at Audrey's attitude towards him.

'what is it now?' he thought to himself. His friendship with Audrey was becoming weird by the day and it started ever since he became extra close to Treasure.

"Audrey, is there any issue between the both of us?" Dexter asked anxiously.

"I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the noise from our coworkers," Audrey said. Although she was right about the noise from the staff room because as usual, the place was always noisy. But right now, she was only using that as an excuse because she could still hear Dexter if she paid attention to him.

"Then let's talk somewhere more quiet and private," Dexter said.

"what if I don't wanna talk to you?" she said looking at Dexter who looked dead serious.

"if you don't wanna talk to me then I'll have to create a scene. I'll stand up from my seat and yell to all these cops that my friend here is acting weird towards me and she doesn't want to tell me what the problem is," Dexter said in a firm tone.

Audrey heaved an exasperated sigh. She knew how pushy Dexter was so she had no other option but to follow him to somewhere more private.

"Talk to me. Tell me why you've been acting out on me," Dexter said to Audrey as soon as they left the staff room.

Audrey crossed her arms glaring at Dexter like he was pretending to care about her when he doesn't.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" he asked.

"No. I want you to think of what you did to me first," she said.

Dexter raised his brows feeling dumbfounded. Ever since his first misunderstanding with Audrey, he has made sure never to upset her again in any way.

"What I did to you?" he asked with squinted eyes feeling confused.

"Yes!"

"Audrey, I don't think I remember hurting you," he said boldly.

"Oh really?" Audrey scoffed with pain in her eyes.

"Well, since you don't remember what you did then I don't think there's any need for this conversation," she said turning to leave but Dexter quickly held her hand making her halt her steps.

"Audrey wait! …I'm sorry if I had done something to hurt you… and I'm sure whatever I must've done wasn't intentional. But right now, I'm being very honest. I can't remember what I did or said to you that must've upset you. Please tell me what is going on" he pleaded, holding her hand firmly so she wouldn't let go.

However, Audrey forcefully broke free from Dexter's grip looking at him with a frown on her face. She was very upset with Dexter but she couldn't stay angry because of her feelings for him.

"Yesterday I asked you if you were free because I wanted to have dinner with you… Oh God! I was so pathetic" she whispered the last sentence to herself.

"you told me you were busy and I guessed it had to do with work," she said

"That is true. I was busy" Dexter nodded his head.

"You're such a lying jerk!" Audrey snapped.

"What!? How am I a liar?"

"Just hold on, I wanna show you something," Audrey said bringing out her phone. She showed Dexter a picture of him trying to feed Treasure a spoon of ice cream at an ice cream parlor.

The original photo was a girl who took a selfie of herself and unfortunately, the background of the picture was showing Dexter and Treasure. Audrey saw the picture on social media and she recognized Dexter and Treasure as she Zoomed in.

She was deeply hurt because Dexter didn't just lie to her, he was having ice cream with another girl who he introduced as a friend and called her a coworker.

Ever since that day, Audrey has disliked Treasure, and seeing Dexter smile like that with her got her jealous and bitter. She was mad that Dexter lied to her and chose to be with Treasure and that was why she was rude to Dexter.

"You could've at least told me you were having a date with that 'friend' of yours instead of lying to me and also leading me on" Audrey angrily said to Dexter.

....

Noah was walking back and forth in Carl's office, sipping his coffee. He kept complaining about Sasha's attitude and how he can't stand her but Carl wasn't responding to him. He had a blank expression on his face as he was seriously typing on his laptop without saying a word to Noah.

"Hey! Boss! Are you even listening to what I'm saying?" Noah said to Carl.

"Yeah, I can. You want me to fire Sasha because she was rude to you," Carl said.

"Exactly!" Noah chimed because that was exactly what he was saying.

"You know what?" Carl paused for a while.

"if I was going to fire anyone between you and Sasha, it'll definitely be YOU!" he said emphatically.

"HEY!" Noah voiced out, sneering at Carl.

"yeah because Sasha came back from Seattle and brought me a gift. That is something you'd never do even if there was a gun in your throat" Carl said.

"Sasha brought you a gift?" Noah was in shock.

"mmhm… she brought me a wine from Washington, look it's right there," Carl said pointing to a wine that was on his desk

"Shit! This is unbelievable…" Noah exclaimed.

"Whoa! This baby right here is going to be pretty expensive," Noah said with amazement as he was holding and staring at the bottle of wine. He wouldn't have believed Carl if he wasn't seeing the wine right now.

"What made you so special for Sasha of all people to give you a gift? …I mean, that she-devil is too mean and evil to show love to anyone…. Unless..." he said, stroking his jaw.

"Unless what?" Carl asked with his eyes still on the screen of his laptop.

"Unless Sasha has feelings for you," Noah said jokingly and he laughed at his own joke because he thought it was silly.

"Noah that's a terrible joke. Are you forgetting that Sasha is a married woman?" Carl said in a husky tone.

"So what if she's married? My first ex-wife cheated on me and that's why we got divorced" Noah said.

"Pff! I'm sure she left you because you didn't take her seriously"

"It's not about being serious okay? How about you? You were serious about Anastasia yet she left you" Noah said to Carl.

Carl who was typing on his laptop paused immediately he heard Anne's name. He shot Noah a disdainful look like he had just made a big mistake.
