Abandoned Baby

Three months later.

"Huwaahh~ huwaahh~"

A loud crying of baby resonated in one of the maternity theatre as the doctor and nurses busy attending to the newborn baby and the mother.

One of the nurse passed the baby to the doctor after they finished cleaning the baby. The doctor had a wide smile on her face as she approach the bed where the husband repeatedly pecked his wife's crown as he thanked her for her laborious and well done job in bringing their child into the world. The woman adorned an exhausted yet happy smile on her face.

"Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Wang. It's a boy." The doctor smiled and hand over the baby to the pair of husband and wife.

Their smile bloomed more wider when they heard they got a baby boy. By now, their position in the Wang family will be more stable and secure. Some time later, the woman was transferred into a private maternity ward while the man rushed out to make a call to his family.

"Hello, mom, dad..Mei Lien had successfully gave birth to a boy. Now you got your first grandson." The man adorned a blissful smile on his face as he imagined himself being the patriarch of the Wang family.

After his parent promised to come later, he strode back into the room as he patted his chest proudly. 'Well done, Wang Tai. You did it again.'

"You're back." His wife stretching her hand out and he quickly hold it gently before he placed a kiss on her knuckle. He bend down to give her a deep kiss just to convey how grateful and happy he is with their situation.

"You're really my lucky charm, MeiMei." Wang Tai caressed her face tenderly and gave her a look of adoration.

Liang Mei Lien smiled coquettishly, basking in his affection. 'Hah! I'll see later who in the Wang family dare to insult me as a lowly commoner after this.' "I'm glad I can make you happy, Tai. Afterall, you're being looked down because of me, the lowly commoner." She averts her eyes away just to pretend to wipe the nonexistent tears.

"Don't be ridiculous. I'll beat everyone up if anyone dare to insult you again after this. If not because of you, we won't get the Fu Enterprise. And after we got the Fu Enterprise, Wang family position in the country become more prominent. It's all thanks to your hardworks. So don't looked down upon yourself."

Soon, the Wang family members came and insincerely offered the couple congratulations and good wishes.

"Where's the baby?" The second daughter-in-law of Wang family asked when they did not see the baby inside the room.

"Oh, the nurse took him for some tests. They'll be back soon." Wang Tai answered while flaunting his affection for his wife. Liang Mei Lien enjoyed their fake smiling face, as she knows they are actually furious by the news but she feigned ignorance as she smiled amiably.

As Wang Tai said, the nurse came back with their baby and a doctor towed behind her with frowned marring his face. He felt apprehensive by the doctor's regretful expression. Liang Mei Lien could feel her husband anxiousness too although she tried to calm herself and chanting repeatedly inside her heart. 'Everything is fine. Nothing is wrong.'

They watched as the nurse carefully put the sleeping baby on the crib before she stood behind the doctor. The doctor gave them a small smile. "Mr and Mrs Wang."

The doctor spoke about the tests done and towards the end, he apologized, "Overall the child is healthy, but we're sorry to inform you, your boy might has a hearing-impaired in his left ear. We had done the hearing test numerous time but the results are the same. Thus the baby might developed a speech problem in the future as the result of the hearing loss.

"But the good news is your baby can be treated with a small surgery when he was old enough to undergone a surgery, that will be in few months old. During this period of time, we'll need your cooperation to bring him to his appointments, so we can observe and conduct more intensive hearing tests from time to time. Don't worry, it's nothing major."

The doctor flipped and scribbled something on his board before he took his leave. "Congratulations again, Mr and Mrs Wang. Have a nice day."

The room is filled with deafening silence as everyone tried to comprehend the current informations and grasp the situation well. Soon enough, a mockery chuckled can be heard. "Pftt..might be because of your lowly bloodline the baby born deaf."

Unreadable expression plastered on the Old Wang and his wife's faces as they heard the taunts and insults that being thrown towards his youngest son and daughter-in-law but they did not do anything to stop it.

"That's why brother, father...I told you..that woman is a jinx for our family," Wang Tai's eldest brother nonchalantly said but there's obvious mockery danced in his eyes as he disdainfully looked at the young couple. "Let's go home, honey. I'm afraid their bad luck will be pass to our unborn baby."

Wang Tai and Liang Mei Lien pursed their lips and clenched their fists tightly as they watched everyone jeered at them and went away.

"Fu*k them all!" Wang Tai blootered the nearby chair and it was flung towards the semi-glass cabinet and loud crashes thundered inside the room thus jolting their baby up from his sleep. The baby whimpered and cry when his sleep was disturbed.

"Shut up! Shut up! SHUT UP!" He yelled at his poor baby and roughly thumped the side of his crib thus making the baby more uncomfortable and frightened. So he wailed loudly as a response.

"Hey, that's enough! The doctor said he can be treated in the near future," Liang Mei Lien cautiously cradled her baby and cooed him to sleep again.

"It's true but mistakes bound to happen in some surgery. What if he become fully deaf? Eventhough the surgery will be a success, he still carried the 'deaf child' title and getting mocked for the rest of his life. Then where should I put my face? It'll be embarrassing if people get to know my child had hearing disability. We can't have him," Wang Tai rebuked in frustration.

Liang Mei Lien looked down towards her sleeping baby in her arms as she pondered about her husband's statement. It's true indeed. Just like how the Wang family despised her lowly birth until now even after what she had done for the family. Her son will get the same treatment if not, more worse than what she experienced. Her position in the family will become more lower if she insist to bring the baby back home.

Meanwhile, in one of the deserted staircase, a man made a call to someone as he observed the live video on his tablet. "We've done as you had instructed, Master. Right now, they're arguing about the baby." The man affirmed, "Yes." when the other person reconfirming the current situation. "I'll send you the footage later on."

The man smirked and ridiculed the pair of husband and wife when he continue to hear their arguments using the earphone. "This is just the starting."

In the end, as they predicted, when Liang Mei Lien was discharged from the hospital, they took the baby along but left him outside an orphanage.
