Doubts

I got out of bed and saw the sunlight coming through the window. I couldn't help but yawn from exhaustion after spending so much time in the dungeon. My body feels a bit sore, and the feeling is similar to when I first exercised, having spent a long time getting used to not doing anything too strenuous.

I can't help but think about something other than the dungeon right now, and I feel like I got a little careless after thinking better about what I did yesterday.

I became too trusting after experiencing the healing effects that Hinding magic grants when it hits an enemy.

But that made me wonder. Hinding's effects heal me for the damage it does when hitting an enemy. But what if what I'm facing isn't something that can hurt me? If I'm facing a minotaur right now, a single hit will likely knock me out, and even if I do hit it with Hinding, it will probably just tickle it, and the healing I would receive would be nil.

I can always run away, and if I can't do it by running, I can do it by opening portals. But the portals take several seconds to open, and I can't move while creating them. I would still have to cross them when I open them, and what if said enemy is stronger and faster than me? That would make it useless because the distance I can open the portals isn't too far right now. Especially if I get used to running away when facing an enemy much stronger than me, I can never improve and become stronger. If I try to use exalted mode and still don't do any damage, it would make me tired faster.

"Yesterday, you said that you already got your advisor's approval to explore the dungeon," he reminded me of what I had said the previous day after dinner, where I had a very bad time because it was already full, but I still had to bite the bullet and eat the food together with Milya and Milye, who showed worse expressions than me when seeing the food.

"Yeah, what happened to that?" I asked, wondering why he brought up this subject all of a sudden.

He answered me with a smile. "I'm going to explore the dungeon with you. So get ready for us to go." He left after telling me that.

I closed the door and picked up the clothes that he had left drying. Right now, I am wearing light blue full-body pajamas because at night, I have to wash my clothes and leave them to dry. I should buy other clothes, but I don't feel very comfortable wearing different clothes when leaving the house. Maybe I should ask them to make me a set of clothes similar to the one I am wearing or look for clothes that do not make me feel uncomfortable and have a hood.

I left that thought in my mind to do it when I have more valis. I did my daily needs before changing my clothes.

We all went to have breakfast together, and then I met with David to tell the familia that we were leaving because before we go to the dungeon, we have to say goodbye.

I also have to keep in mind that in the dungeon, I have to work as a team when I'm on the middle and lower floors. I can't just think about myself all the time.

"How annoying!" I said while grabbing my head.

Going on thinking about how weak I am right now won't change anything. If my enemy is stronger than me, I just need to get stronger. If he's faster than me, I just need to get faster. If I can't heal, I just have to deal more damage and not take it. If I'm slow to open portals, I just have to open them faster.

Knock, knock...

I stopped thinking about the dungeon when I heard someone knock several times on the door.

"I'm coming," I said before going to the door and opening it.

When I opened it, I saw David, who looked a little sleepy, as he was wearing brown full-body pajamas.

He saw that I opened the door and greeted me. "Liam, good morning." I greeted him back, "Good morning."

"Yesterday, you said that you already got your advisor's approval to explore the dungeon," he reminded me. I nodded, recalling the conversation we had after a less than appetizing dinner. Milya and Milye had grimaced at the food, but we had all eaten it regardless.

"Yeah, what happened to that?" I asked because he was bringing it up now.

"I'm going to explore the dungeon with you. So get ready for us to go," he replied with a smile before leaving.

After he left, I closed the door and picked up the clothes he had left to dry. I was currently wearing light blue full-body pajamas since I had to wash my clothes every night and leave them to dry. I knew I should buy more clothes, but I didn't feel comfortable wearing different clothes when leaving the house. Maybe I should ask someone to make me a set of clothes similar to what I was currently wearing or find clothes that didn't make me feel uncomfortable and had a hood.

I made a mental note to take care of it later when I was more capable. After taking care of my daily needs, I changed into my regular clothes.

We all had breakfast together, and then I met with David to inform the familia that we were leaving. It was customary to say goodbye before going to the dungeon.

"They grow so fast!" Abeona exclaimed as she hugged me, and tears streamed down her face. Adeona tried to reassure her, "Abe, we already talked about this. Don't exaggerate. You know it's natural for children to go to the dungeon to find their own adventures." She kept reassuring her until Abeona let go of me.

David looked a bit embarrassed to see the way our goddess acted, although we were somewhat used to it by now.

As we were finally about to leave, we heard "Have a good time!" from Milya and Milye, and Adeona wished us "Good luck." After saying goodbye to the whole familia, David and I left for the guild.

As we walked, we heard Abeona's voice in the distance, shouting, "Come back safely!" That made both of us a little embarrassed, but it also made me feel a bit happy, and we continued in the direction of the guild.

Once we were a considerable distance away, David and I started talking, although the whole topic was related to the dungeon.

"Liam, are you very excited to go to the dungeon? The first time I went with the girls, I felt very excited. Although we had a bit of a hard time, it wasn't too much, and we finally got used to it," he asked.

I thought about the answer to his question for a bit and only came to one conclusion, "I don't know if it's good to be too excited about going to a place where many adventurers die. But yes, I want to earn valis and strengthen myself, even if it means facing many difficulties for my sake and that of the familia."

I shared with him the small conclusion I had come to now, but maybe my goal would change as I go deeper into the dungeon and start to have more ambitions. For now, I could only try to become as strong as possible.

I didn't have high ambitions like Bell to become a hero like the Argonaut or like Aiz to become strong enough to take revenge on the dragon. I sighed, and we continued our conversation until we finally reached the guild, where we had to separate to talk for a while with our respective advisors.

This time, Alya took it upon herself to personally check what I had in my backpack to make sure she didn't leave anything behind. Afterward, David and I went straight to the dungeon.

"Liam, you must be careful when facing a monster for the first time," David warned me as we finally reached Babel, where the entrance to the dungeon was located.

Maybe it was because of the first time he went to the dungeon with Milya and Milye. Milya trembled in fear and didn't dare to face a goblin the first time she saw one. However, after a while, she got used to it enough, and the situation didn't get worse because David and Milye helped her.

"I'll be fine," I told him, and then we went down the spiral stairs.
