Professor Thomas turned towards Joseph and said, "Do what?"
Joseph: "Do I really need to explain that?"
Professor Thomas: "I really don't know what you are talking about."
Joseph: "Professor, you yourself said that I was your best student. So do you really expect me to believe that you are completely oblivious to what I am asking?"
Professor Thomas sighed and said, "Joseph, I really do not know how to explain. I myself cannot tell what came over me."
Joseph: "You could have stopped the fight anytime you wanted to. You are the headmaster after all. I'm sure no student, no matter how powerful, can defy an order from the headmaster."
Professor Thomas: "I told you Joseph. I do not know what came over me. You are right, I could have stopped the fight, I should have. But all I did was ask Aria to give up, hoping that she would not do so."
Joseph seemed disgusted upon hearing this. He looked away as he said, "I guess that is the real nature of all of us. We cannot turn down a good fight."
The two then stood in silence for quite some time before the door of the room was thrown open and Miss Anhao came out. She said, "We have run the tests. If you will come in, David will explain her condition."
Joseph entered the room with Professor Thomas, his heart in a knot. He saw that Aria's clothes had been changed and she was now wearing a light blue hospital gown.
David said, "Professor Thomas, I'm glad to inform that she has not sustained any life threatening injuries."
Joseph let out a sigh of relief as David continued, "The outer injuries, like I told you, are too many but none of them are much serious except her shoulder. Her internal injuries are also not much. He has slightly injured her lungs and I am sure will be able to breathe by herself if she does not move around much. She also sustained injuries to the abdomen and the stomach. But they will heal themselves as long as she follows our plans regarding what to eat and gets lots of rest."
Joseph cut in, "So that means she is basically fine?"
David: "I wouldn't say that she is fine. She is injured badly and it will be at least three to four days before she can walk around. Even then she would have to do that very slowly and for short periods of time. What I am saying is that, her body is young and it will heal itself, if she follows our plans. I will be patching up her shoulder and then she can be moved to the recovery ward after I've monitored her condition for a while."
The knot in Joseph's heart loosened. If she was to be transferred to the recovery ward, that meant that Aria would be fine.
David walked upto Aria as he said, "Look, her breathing is even now. She can breathe without Hannah's help."
Professor Thomas spoke for the first time since he had entered the room, "If her condition is not that serious, why did she cough blood and faint?"
David: "I told you, she did sustain injuries to her abdomen and stomach. The coughing up of blood was probably due to that. And she fainted, the most probable cause of that would be partially blood loss and partially use of too much strength during fighting."
