Edge Of The Book: The Castle Siege

Prologue

I opened my eyes at first thought, it was a happy place from this view I can see the fields where the grass is blown away by the wind that creates this magnificent view. All of it changed when I glanced at the back and realized; I was on the battlefield, we were in this room stuck, badly injured, and barely breathing.

The structure looked like it was going to collapse because of this warfare. This place doesn't look like the throne room anymore, and it was a war zone; an arena for us to fight.

All of us knew how a battlefield felt but this? It's a nightmare; it's intense and at the same time; scary. This place is the battlefield we never once met, and now we did. Our emotions are all over the place.

Our king approaches us while trying to fend off those projectiles coming our way, and he then cast magic that creates his armor and creates his golden sword, flashier than anything.

He kneeled at us. "Escape from here; all of you are not in the best condition now." He looked in his back while watching his Loyal Knight fighting the black mage. "Cleru, can you teleport them away from here?"

The Cat nudges its head. "I think I can still manage it." The cat said while slowly walking in our direction.

"Make sure you teleport them away from here." He said with a severe tone.

He looks at the person beside me. "You Lux, make my son a great king and teach my son to be the strongest king than I am, make him more powerful than I am, make him the strongest and wisest king in the history of mankind, can you do that?." He said while his tears fell down his cheeks.

"Y-yes, I will try your m-majesty." He coughed blood out of his mouth, he was trying to get up, but I held him down so he couldn't move anymore.

His Companion pulled the other close to us to join us back to the camp we were early; he was unconscious, and some of us were out of mana, especially me, so we had to retreat its most likely that we would not go back here immediately.

I thought he was just an average caster but was wrong. He is a monster. Even I alone can't handle him. I couldn't use my full power because I promised my king to keep this magic from everyone. I can use this to end everything, but I have to wait for the right opportunity to use this.

He then stared at me. "Teach my son how to rule this country. Be his servant, be his protector, be his advisor, and most of all be his friend who will trust you whatever happens." He leans towards my ear. "And protect her. she's our only key for our victory."

"King! I can still fight." He tried to get out of my grip. "Let go of my cousin." He coughs blood out of his mouth and catches his breath.

"Not now, soldier, but promise me this you will take this Throne back and give this to my son." He stared at the back as he witnessed his loyal Knight flew and hit the wall because of an attack.

The king's face is shocked at what he just witnessed in front of his eyes, and he then looks in our direction.

I know those eyes. Those are the eyes that care for its country's future. Those are the eyes of a true king.

"Get out of here immediately!" He stared at the cat. "Do it---" The king was interrupted by a magic orb that hit my right shoulder, interrupting the teleportation magic.

"All of you cannot escape my wrath!" He was about to hit us, but His majesty loyal Knight knocks the Black mage.

"Now's your time, quickly before he recovers." He stared at us. "Come back here and retrieve my throne." We felt a sudden quake and then saw his loyal Knight plummet into the ground. "Markus, No! Leave, now!" He runs towards the black mage to attack, but he is flung towards the ceiling and falls.

"How dare you approach the seal demon king!" The black mage cast a magic spell that looked like a whip.

He strangled them and threw them around the room like a pillow. Every time they collide with the walls, it leaves a huge crack and falling debris that causes a sudden quake in this throne room.

"Demon king is long gone with this power, and this is nothing compared to that." The Knight provoked the black mage as he struggled to get the whip off his neck.

While we were waiting for us to teleport away as we saw the king was all beat up and turned along with his Loyal Knight; even though they were tired and weak, they still stood up and fought that monster.

I couldn't do anything to help my majesty. I'm the strongest mage in this palace, but why can't I fight? If only I hadn't restrained myself, I could have done something to fight him head-on. If only he could let me use this, I think there's a probability that we win.

As we were about to leave the place, everything slowed down as we watched our companion pull her hands out and catch the black arrow that was about to hit my cousin in my grip and then

Everything turns into black smoke, and we realise that we are here in our camp.

We feel like we're about to Explode because our companion sacrifices herself to save us. If I think, carefully she didn't keep us. She held him from that danger. She kept Lux to let him live longer, so he could fulfil his majesty's wish.

"Gina... No, why would you do that." His tears flow like a river.

"Why are you crying?" Claire asked.

She immediately runs towards us to heal our wounds with the help of others

"Gina sacrifice herself to let us escape." My cousin said. "Cleru, Save her, please."

After that, he burst out of tears and wanted to return, but we couldna let her sacrifice in vain. My king, I promise you, I will help your son rebuild your kingdom.

This time I won't fail you.

I will help your son rebuild this kingdom to its former glory. The Kingdom of Lycian, this is our Land, and we will take it back.

I will avenge you, my lord, and save your beloved kingdom. I promise you that.
