High school life in Japan isn't as overwhelming as people imagine—at least not for the majority of ordinary students who have no plans to get into prestigious universities like Tokyo University, enter politics, or join powerful conglomerates. For most, simply completing the minimum schoolwork to graduate is enough.
The rest of their time in school could be spent on club activities and similar pursuits.
Keikain Fukuki wasn't an exception. In fact, the only reason he chose to attend Kuoh Academy was because of its clubs.
So, after enduring a grueling morning of culture classes, the long-awaited time for afternoon club activities finally arrived.
Ding ding ding!
The piercing yet oddly satisfying sound of the dismissal bell echoed through the classroom speakers. The teacher at the podium, as if perfectly in sync, closed their textbook and announced, "That's all for today's class," before leaving with their lesson plans.
The classroom atmosphere relaxed in an instant. Students who had been intensely focused on absorbing the lessons visibly eased their expressions, with some even smiling as they eagerly gathered with friends from the same club to head to their activity spots.
After all, attending class was somewhat obligatory, but club activities were a chance to explore hobbies and interests—or, in simpler terms, to hang out with friends.
Amid the growing chatter, Fukuki calmly packed his textbooks and retrieved a briefcase he had brought that morning. He stood up, heading toward the classroom door.
However, before he could reach the exit, someone suddenly stepped in front of him.
"Heh~ Judging by this, Fukuki-kun is off to meet Kuoh Academy's number one beauty, Rias-senpai, again, isn't he?"
The one speaking was a bespectacled girl with brown braided hair. She adjusted her glasses, one hand on her hip, leaning slightly forward as she scrutinized him with a sly smile.
"Well, I have to say, Fukuki-kun, you're quite something. Even though you've only been here for two or three weeks since transferring, your closeness with Rias-senpai already surpasses 99% of the girls at this school—and has completely left 100% of the boys in the dust."
"Kiryuu…"
Fukuki paused mid-step.
"I'm just going to club activities—or work, if you prefer. It has nothing at all to do with what you're insinuating as a 'date.' Besides, it's not like it's just me and Rias in the club. Akeno-senpai and Koneko are there too. Who would even go on a date in that kind of setting?"
"Got it, got it. So it's not a date—it's a party, right?"
Aika Kiryuu leaned in further, her smirk growing wider as she covered her mouth and whispered dramatically.
"I did a scan on you the very first day you transferred, you know. Quite impressive, if I do say so myself. With those stats, I bet you could handle Rias-senpai, Akeno-senpai, and Koneko-chan all at once, huh? So, c'mon, fess up. Every time you say you're going to club activities, are you actually going to the activity room for some wild and crazy—"
"Yes."
Fukuki replied, deadpan.
From a young age, it was rare for him to be rendered completely speechless, but Aika Kiryuu was undoubtedly a master at achieving just that.
Typically, a girl with braided hair and glasses gave off an impression of being prim and proper, but Kiryuu was a different breed entirely.
What kind of "proper" girl could scan someone's measurements down to precise details just by eye—and on the first day of meeting them, no less? And that's without mentioning her habit of casually dropping terms like "wild and crazy" at every opportunity.
Proper? More like a pervert in disguise—or rather, a streaker who only bothered to wear a mask.
To call her a streaker wasn't entirely accurate; at least she knew to cover her face. But to call her normal? Not a chance.
"Wow, you actually admitted it!"
Kiryuu took a half-step back, her hands covering her mouth as if she'd just uncovered a massive secret, her reaction exaggerated to the extreme.
Seeing that this was only going to escalate further, Fukuki calmly made a universally recognized hand gesture🖕, sidestepped her with practiced agility, and headed straight for the classroom door.
However, just as he reached the door, a commotion arose near the stairwell in the hallway outside.
It was currently the afternoon dismissal, and the time slot until 5 p.m. was reserved for student club activities. As such, the corridor was bustling with students heading off to their respective clubs.
Fukuki glanced toward the source of the noise. He saw the crowd parting as a tall, voluptuous woman with black hair, wearing a white coat, walked through. Wherever she went, students—both male and female—paused to steal a glance, their faces filled with awe.
Her outfit, which included black stockings, garter belts, high heels, and a short skirt, hinted at a beauty that was both elegant and brimming with untamed allure.
"Ah… That's Hasegawa-sensei, the school nurse. She's one of the few at Kuoh Academy who could contend for the title of 'most beautiful' alongside Rias-senpai and Akeno-senpai," Kiryuu casually explained, as if reciting a known fact.
After finishing her commentary, she glanced at the boy beside her, her grin growing mischievous. She jabbed him lightly in the side with her elbow.
"Oh my? Your eyes are glued to her~. Could it be that Fukuki-kun has also fallen for Hasegawa-sensei's charms?"
"Calling it 'fallen for her charms' seems a bit much. You make it sound like she's some DLC character from a certain game who steals hearts at first glance."
"Oh~? So, does that mean Fukuki-kun would fall for such a character at first glance?"
"Stop it…"
As the two of them exchanged banter, the woman who had caused the earlier stir approached.
Like a gentle spring breeze, her presence silenced Kiryuu mid-sentence. Fukuki raised his head, noticing that the elegant nurse now stood before them. She looked directly at him, her striking green eyes—uncommon for someone in Japan—reflecting a face he knew all too well.
Kiryuu opened her mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but whatever words she had were swallowed back down.
Just as the atmosphere was on the verge of turning awkwardly silent, the beautiful nurse spoke softly.
"Your teacher has mentioned that you've been sleeping in class quite a lot lately. I was worried you might not be feeling well. But seeing you like this puts my mind at ease. Still, if you're not feeling well at any time, you're always welcome to come to the infirmary."
"…Oh."
Although he wasn't sure why she was suddenly saying this, her words sounded kind enough, so Fukuki nodded in acknowledgment.
Seeing that the boy did not refuse her kind offer, Chisato Hasegawa gave a gentle, refined smile.
"Well then, see you later."
With those words, she resumed her steps and gracefully departed.
The bespectacled girl, who had been standing frozen in place, finally swallowed stiffly as she watched the elegant school nurse walk more than ten meters away.
"It seems like Nurse Hasegawa… really cares about you. Could it be that during the club party, you and she… you know, got close?"
"Yes, everything you said is true."
The response came from Keikain Fukuki, his voice echoing from the staircase at the far end of the corridor.
