The carriage finally rolled to a stop in front of the bakery. Raven hopped out first and turned back to help Seraphina, his hand reaching out for hers.
He gently helped her down, making sure she didn't trip. Just as her feet hit the ground and they were about to head toward the bakery door, a sharp scream suddenly ripped through the calm air, catching them both off guard.
"Ahh!"
A sharp scream pierced the air, throwing them both off guard. A woman, struggling to balance a cup of steaming tea, stumbled forward, her eyes wide with panic as she careened toward Seraphina. Time seemed to slow as the teacup wobbled in her grasp.
In that fleeting instant, the knight assigned to protect Seraphina reacted with lightning speed. His figure was a blur as he stepped between the woman and Seraphina.
