The Amazing Race

For the past few hours, I kept riding without stopping. Eventually, hunger got the better of me, and I decided to make go to a pit stop. The only problem was, there were no pit stops within what seemed to be a hundred mile radius (towards the eastern banner). Of course, I wasn't going give up that easily!

I redirected myself towards the nearest village, approximately fifty miles away. It was far off, but with the horse, I should be able to reach it in around an hour or so? Luckily, the village wasn't too far off course, but then, I realized a bit problem. As I got closer to the village, I seemed to be going further and further away from the eastern banner. Well, at least the to the left of it.

However, I didn't let that stop me, and kept going ahead. Before I knew it, the sun was in the middle of the sky, and cooking me and the horse alive. Now, the need for water was stronger than my need for food. Luckily, the village was only a few minutes away.

When I got there, I asked the villagers for water. They were suspicious, but they gave me water anyways — probably because they saw the horse galloping fifty miles away.

When they asked where I was going, I told them that I was heading to the Jia's city. The people asked if I was sick, since that was the reason nine out of ten people went to the Jia's city.

Obviously, I did the logical thing and pretended to be sick to get more water and food. Unfortunately, there was a doctor amidst the villagers. He wanted to examine me, which I obviously let him — it would be suspicious otherwise. I purposefully made my breathing irregular and tried to tighten the muscles around my heart. I had a very hard time breathing, and started feeling lightheaded, but soon after, the doctor let go of my wrist and told me my heartbeat was somewhat offbeat and my breathing could easily be disrupted. I mean, he wasn't wrong, but...

Anyways, I escaped the town without anyone the smarter. I mean, if you thought about it, my difficulty breathing only became an 'issue' when he was examining me. Afterwards, I went back to normal, which he for some reason did not find suspicious? Well, I guess that was just the gap between the poor and the rich.

Now, you might wonder how or why a person's economic situation has anything to do with their overall intelligence, but it all comes down to school. Those who attend will be smart than those who don't. But if a person can't afford to go, then they'll obviously still be dumber than someone that could afford it. Again, very simple.

And if you're wondering, yes. The whole nineteen day trip home would be him talking to himself like this and explaining stuff that happened. Oh, you can also skip to the chapter where the ride ends, if you want. At that time, the perspective will change back to how it was from Pangzi explaining stuff to me explaining stuff. It's hard adding dialogue to Pangzi explaining stuff, so I'd like to minimize it, but I feel like this kind of casual writing is more "me". The chapter where the ride ends will be called "Destination"
