Sent Home Again

After my flare up at the office, I was deemed over worked and sent home for the weekend. I couldn't come to the office, and Aaron was too busy to come to my rescue. Basically, I was being punished for verbally assaulting the Director of Dragon's Eye. I could only hope that in my absence, Aaron could find the last two model's we needed to pull off our Fantasy Winter themed show. A lot of work was being shoved on to Aaron, and I feel like soon enough he would start to collapse. For some reason, I feel like this is exactly what Damien wanted.

That bastard Damien. Why did he have to show up now? Why couldn't we have signed a deal with another company other than the damned Dragon's Eye. The last thing I wanted right now, was to deal with the bastard that seems to know too much about me. At least this weekend would be the perfect opportunity I would need to dig up information on him. I just wish I had a car, because I would drive myself there and do it in person. Not to mention it's been a really long time since I visited home. While I was bouncing around homes, I would run away often. The homes I came in too where mostly unstable or abusive.

Every knew home, and every knew face was just another passing fleeting moment. I don't even remember the names or faces of the people who temporarily took care of me, but I remember the way I was treated and the was enough for me to distance myself from strangers. Making new friends always became increasingly difficult, so I just stopped all together. It changed after I met Bastion in college. At first, we clashed a lot, his arrogance and demanding nature never mingling well with my quiet demeanor. It wasn't until we sat together in our first design class that we actually started to talk.

Of course, it never started off pleasant. He bullied me a bit until we were assigned to the same project. There we learned about each other's talents. Thus started the budding of a friendship that flourished into a company. He offered me to be the co-director of the building, but I didn't really want the responsibility of taking care of a business. So, he did away with the position completely, saying that he couldn't trust anyone else to help him with affairs other than me. Even though I don't have the title, I still have the place in his heart.

I laid quietly on the couch, building up the nerve to call the dispatch number of my old neighborhood. Even if he was still there, the question is, would he help me. I know he promised dad that he would look after me in the event if he ever passed away, and in a way he did. Every household that never worked out, he was there. He took me out for ice cream, to play at the amusement parks, and then would help me in a new home. It continued like that for the next eight years until I finally graduated and made my way to college.

Deciding I would no longer dwell on it, the best way to an answer is acting upon it. I wouldn't know the outcome just by procrastinating. So, I found the number to the dispatch service and dialed the number. It rang a few times before a nice lady picked up the phone.

"This is dispatch my name is Emilia, what's your emergency?" I took a long breath as I steadied my fast-pacing heart in my chest.

"Emilia, it's been a long time. Its Rosaline Freed. I was calling to see if maybe Detective James Cowell was perhaps in the office?" My heart hammered in my ears as I waited for a reply. It was silent on the other end, making me even more nervous.

"Rosaline! I almost forgot about you it's been so long. You really need to come back and visit us young lady. You may be a fashion star now, but don't forget about your roots." I laughed nervously as she continued to rant over the phone. Emilia was the receptionist at the police department. She was well known for bringing baked cookies into the office for children going through abuse, or perhaps a loss of death. She was another one I relied heavily on during my time of need.

"I know I know; I am so sorry. As soon as I have a day, I will be down there in a heartbeat. But if you don't mind, I really do need to talk with Detective Cowell. Do you think you could snag him for me?" I asked pleadingly. There was a long sigh on the other end and another pause. At least she didn't say he had retired, so there was some good news for me. But with the amount of time, I had to wait for an answer told me that I would soon be met with a bit of bad luck.

"Sorry Rosie, it looks like Detective Cowell is out of the office on an important case. Give me your number and I will have him contact you as soon as he get in." I could hear her smile through the receiver. I chuckled to myself, glad that I had at least a chance to get what I needed.

"That sounds great. Thanks Emilia. Text me when you are off work so we can catch up." Ending on a good note, I stared at the ceiling. With that out of the way, what else could I possibly do? I normally worked my weekends, but I was reduced to nothing. If my weekend was going to be spent like this, then I might as well die from boredom. While listening to my own rambling thoughts, an idea had occurred to me. I may not be able to do any work today, but that doesn't necessarily mean I couldn't go out.

It was the weekend, and boss's never usually work on the weekends. So, I wonder if Loui was busy. I could offer him out to eat if it meant I could spend a few less minutes behind these four walls. Before I could dial Loui's number, Leo came from down the hallway. He yowled impatiently at me, as he sat down in front of the couch. His eyes rested upon my face, looking bored and tired. I scratched behind his ears, and he started to purr.

I guess even the most low maintenance of animals could get bored as well. I couldn't imagine being cooped up here all day with nothing to do besides lounging around. With a soft chuckle, I rose from my spot on the couch and walked over to his tree tower. The last time I actually touched this tree tower, I had placed many toys in it as a way of keeping the house clean. So, I knelt down to the first house, and found all of his little balls and other frilly things still tucked away inside.

Grabbing a handful of toys, I sat on the floor and waved them in front of his face. His eyes went practically dark as he watched me tease him. Dropping it in front of his face and snatching it back up before he could even swipe a paw at it. Giggling, I threw the toy across the room. Before it could even hit the floor, Leo was there, running frantically. I watched his fur poof out as he snatched it in the air, and then continued to bat it around. It wasn't until the doorbell rang that; my attention was torn away.

I glanced a look at my watch, noting how I was only occupied for at least thirty minutes. There was no phone call on my phone letting me know someone was coming over. So, who on Earth would be on my door step? I rose to my feet, brushing any of Leo's loose hair from my clothes before walking to the door. I peeked through the patterned glass, trying to get a good sense of who It was. But it just disfigured the man outside my door. With a tight grip on the door, I slowly pulled it open.

"Howdy Miss Freed!"
