Colby's P.O.V
"I knew I shouldn't have let you drive, oh my god Colby, what were you thinking?" Hayley yelled at me while I sat on the side of the hospital bed, with my head laid shamefully in my hands, and my eyes shut tight.
I couldn't blame her for anger or her yelling at me, she was right and the question still stands like an elephant in the room.
What 'was' I thinking?
I didn't have an answer.
Doctor Cane walked in with his clipboard in hand, he was a tall man, around 6'3 with graying dark brunette hair and serious green eyes.
The white doctors jacket made him look official. "Good evening, Colby. How are you feeling?"
He eyed Hayley as she had propped herself against the wall with her arms crossed and a pissed off gaze on her face.
I thought about the question for a moment, as I stared blankly in the direction of the doorway.
Shouldn't I feel… Something?
Scared, worried, or some sort of pain, I feel none of these things.
I looked at him as I spoke. "I feel…" I glanced at Hayley again and I know what they want me to say, but I have no energy to even attempt a lie.
I looked back at the doctor again. "I feel nothing."
A long sigh escaped Doctor Cane's lips. "This is why we scheduled you on Monday, but you didn't show up, did you forget?" He asked, his lips in a thin line.
I nodded in response and he wrote something down.
"What about Chloe, the pregnant woman he came with, is she and the babies okay?" Anxiety seemed to be shaking her to her core.
The doctor finished writing and clicked the pen closed and looked at her. "I'm obligated to only tell her family at this time…"
"What that's bu-." I stopped her before she lost it.
"Its fine, whatever it is you can tell her." I nodded at him for confirmation.
He held the clipboard with both his hands at his waist. "The impact of the collision forced her water to break earlier then it was ready for causing some tearing with in the wall of the uterus, right now the obstetrician is currently doing a emergency birth, inducing her into full labor, we have to try and remove them for the safety, of mom and baby."
"Babies." I say moving myself more comfortably on the crinkling of paper underneath me.
"I-I'm sorry Doctor Cane questioned for clarification.
"There are two babies, we are having twins." I say, staring at him with a serious gaze.
He brought up his clipboard again and began to sift through the papers.
Hayley and I exchanged worried glances as we waited. "Ah, yes, you are correct there are two, congratulations. For the time being let me go check in for an update with the procedure and I will be right back." he says with a tight lipped smile, and excused himself as he left the room closing the door behind him.
"Do you think she's going to make it?" Hayley wondered out loud as she stared off absent mindlessly, once we knew the doctor was gone.
I looked back at the white tiled floor. "Chloe, she's a fighter, I know for certain she will."
"-And the babies?" She added, fumbling her fingers together.
I opened my mouth to speak until I heard someone scream, not just anyone… Chloe.
Chloe's P.O.V
"Where are my babies?" I screamed, as my lower half had been covered in blood.
I didn't feel them moving, and the last thing I remember was…
A nurse walked in at that moment. "Where are my babies?" I hollered again.
"Miss, you have to calm down." She said as she began to walk closer
"No, what-where are they?" My words began to jumble together.
I got my legs over the side of the bed, placing my bare feet onto the tile floor.
My stomach felt like it would drop at any minute.
The nurse was close enough for me to grab her by the shirt. "You have to lay back down, miss please." She warned.
The door swung open Colby's body shook from running and his breathing was staggered.
As we made eye contact I broke down, blood drenching my legs and front I stared at him, reached out for him. "Where are our babies?"
Five or six nurses ran in before he had a chance to answer and surrounding me and pushed me back onto the bed, I fought them trying to get away from their grasp but there were too many.
One of them stuck a needle into my arm, I hissed in pain, a second later I began to feel woozy.
I stopped fighting.
I could barely feel my body anymore and my adrenaline was crashing involuntarily.
Once they realized I was no longer a threat they let me go and backed away letting Colby sit by my side.
He took my hand and kissed it gently.
"Wh?" I whispered, as tears fell down my cheeks.
"Sh, it's okay, they will come and tell us soon, okay?"
I turned my head As I sniffled back tears and nodded, I could feel my eyes rolling to the back of my head.
I don't know what the nurses stuck me with but I felt really light headed as I felt like I was losing consciousness.
Colby is by my side, when I needed him the most.
He kept his promise, I felt, I feel content, my arms I couldn't feel them anymore my eyes began to shutter closed.
"Chloe?" His voice echoed in my ears.
"I-I'm just so tired." I stuttered out in a whisper against the pounding in my head.
"Nurse!" He called out as I backed out.
Colby's P.o.v
"Nurse!" I screamed as my voice broke.
She ran in and quickly made her way over to the other side of her bed.
"What happened?" She questioned checking over her vitals.
"She-she passed out, I don't know." I said still holding her limp hand.
She didn't answer as she removed her gown gently with gloved hands.
Her entire lower half was covered in blood and my eyes widened with shock.
"She's losing too much blood, do either of you have AB+ blood?" I turned to see Hayley standing behind me, and we both shook our heads 'no'.
"I do." Jason's voice came from the doorway.
"That's perfect, sir do you mind moving so we can save your wife?" The nurse asked as she slid a needle into the vein in her arm.
I nodded and let go of her hand and moved out of the way.
Jason passed me to sit down and patted me on the shoulder. "We will save her, I promise."
I nodded at his words. "Can you roll up your sleeve please?"
He did as he was told and she put another needle into his arm.
"This is going to take a bit but if we do this fast she will make it, in the meantime why don't you go down to the infirmary, the babies are there they are going to need you. Sandra is there to assist you." She explains taping the needle in place.
