''Follow me, you will be held with the rest of the new recruits.'' The guards seemed use to this, they led Serpentine Samuel into a large hall where there were bustling new recruits.
''Stay here until the end of the month, the member selection will begin then. Whether you can join or not is your own luck.'' They said casually before leaving the hall to return to guard duty.
Serpentine Samuel took this chance to look around. There weren't too many people in this room, however he noticed bunk beds lining the room.
The crowd was mixed, with different species and races. However the largest fraction were humans surprisingly.
This is definitely one of the advantages of the human race, allowing it to have a foothold in the Eternal Battlefield.
They are quick to reproduce and they often have good talents.
He looked around seeing a dozen human teenagers, and slightly older people. The most noticeable was a handsome couple, a young man and women both wearing red robes with the same insignia.
Clearly they were from the same plane.
However humans weren't the only ones. Serpentine Samuel saw a couple of wolf headed teenagers hidden in the corner.
At the same time there were mermaid looking creatures, absolutely beautiful upper bodies with a strange fish tale below.
There were all sorts of races here, around 60 people in total.
When he entered he drew a bit of attention, however the tusks and scales on his skin turned away most of the Humans. And his aura was nothing special.
He could sense that at least 5 of the people in here had High Rank 1 Strength! Although this isn't too terrible for Samuel now, it is still impressive to be this strong at this age.
No doubt they at least have a 3 Inch Spiritual Root.
Fortunately it was only a week until the end of the month. Serpentine Samuel went and found an empty bunk and sat cross-legged practising. The snake around his neck also crawled up quietly and hid in his sheets.
The week passed quickly, over the week the people in the hall increased slowly, reaching close to a hundred participants!
Suddenly the door of the hall was pushed open. An old man held a walking stick and wandered in.
Immediately every participant stood up and welcomed the old man. Because he was a High Rank 2 Warrior!
More importantly he was in charge of this assessment.
''All of you follow me.'' He didn't speak anymore, just led the way out of the room.
The bronze guards followed behind him, surrounding the new recruits within.
Soon Serpentine Samuel saw a giant archway, with a faint blue light within. This light spread across the entire top of the mountain.
He felt a slight pressure when he saw the blue light.
''This is the first test. When you try to enter, anyone with unsavoury thoughts will be repelled and dealt with immediately.''
''If you have impure thoughts please leave yourself otherwise you will not make it off of this mountain alive.''
The old man spoke loudly as he easily passed through the archway.
''No one? Alright, walk through quickly.'' The old man said impatiently as he stopped and watched the nervous contestants.
Even Serpentine Samuel gulped slightly and watched as the first human walked towards the veil.
Surprisingly when he touched the light, a faint push back appeared but then his body popped through easily.
This gave confidence to the rest of the disciples. Next the good looking human couple walked forward, easily passing under the arch.
Soon dozens of new recruits walked or slithered through the arch. However suddenly a scream echoed in Samuels ears.
He turned his head, only to see a middle aged man with age showing on his face get knocked back hard.
A dent appeared on the dusty ground where he landed, but before anyone could see the man a dozen guards rushed up and pierced the measly Middle Rank 1 Warrior dozens of times.
''Gulp'' Samuel's sleek neck shivered as he gulped heavily. Slowly starting to walk towards the arch.
But when his palm touched the bouncy surface of the veil and then passed through, he realised the premise of the test.
The so-called Impure thoughts aren't the idea of getting resources from the Sect. They only counted if you planned to destroy or assist the destruction of the Sect.
So Serpentine Samuels thoughts of wanting resources and connections didn't affect anything.
However obviously not everyone wanted just resources though. Six new recruits were killed immediately, some claimed that they came from powerful planes but no one paid them any attention.
At most they were spies, or people planning on destroying the Sect from within.
After all the participants were through, it was the next assessment.
The old man led the recruits to a giant obelisk, with a wide circle platform below.
''Huuuuh stand on the platform and it will test your Spiritual Root. This will determine your position in the sect.'' The old man yawned and went to a large chair to sit down.
Two guards took their positions beside the obelisk and slowly called up the new recruits.
''One Inch Spiritual Roots are qualified to become Initiate Disciples, Two Inch Spiritual Roots can become Regular Disciples, three inch Spiritual Roots can become Inner Disciples and four inch Spiritual Roots can become True Disciples.''
One of the guards held a scroll and read out the rules before calling up the first recruit.
It was a young boy, who looked quite nervous especially with his Low Rank 1 Strength.
Everyone already knew their own talent, so naturally this was for the benefit of the Sect.
When the boy stood on the circle platform, faint golden rings appeared as the obelisk lit up.
They went up and down his body before sinking back into the ground and squirming up onto the back of the obelisk.
Immediately a large ruler on the back of the obelisk lit up, it presented the numbers 1-6.
