Chapter 39

I felt like I had a long dream. It was so long that I even felt tired of lying on the bed for such a long time.

When I opened my eyes, all I saw were white, white walls and a white roof. Even the light was white, making me feel cold.

Then, I remembered I had fallen off the stairs. "My baby!" I shouted out and fumbled on my stomach to check. I wanted to know if it was fine.

"You're fine, and the baby too," an elder's voice sounded.

I turned my head to where the voice came from and saw an old man sitting on the sofa on the other side of the room.

"Did you save me?" I asked.

The elder stood up and walked toward me. "Let me introduce myself. I'm Sergio Marsh. You can call me Sergio."

I was vigilant and didn't say anything but stare at him.

Sergio stood at the end of my bed. His voice was gentle. "Don't be afraid. Pedro is like my grandson. I won't hurt you."

Hearing that he knew Pedro, I was a little relieved. At least he wouldn't hurt my baby.
