Distress Call

Adam meets his old university crush in a high-end restaurant and discovers her doing something unimaginable; trying to jump off the building. He manages to take her home and tie her down, in case she tries to do it again. However, when she wakes up, he discovers she was much different than the person she was while they were in university. Filled with renewed hope, he pursues her again and this time, he won't take no for an answer. Enter a serial killer into the equation, you know there's going to be drama. Warning; lots of angst and psychological elements but is still a refreshing read. There are also elements of capture so if you're sensitive to that, don't read too much meaning into it. Hope you enjoy it

Chapter 5

Adam led her by hand and took her to the front counter. There was a young boy there and he grinned when he saw Adam.

"Mr. Denver, you really came. I thought you would never visit"

"Where's your boss Tony? Tell her I need a place for a date"

"She's having a tryst in the office. I'll go arrange a place for you. For now, the both of you should go stay in the lounge"

"Okay. Don't take too long"

When Tony left, Giselle glanced curiously at Adam.

"Japanese Cuisine?"

"Mmhm. The place belongs to an old friend. She likes fooling around but she's a great chef"

"I see"

"Do you not like Japanese cuisine?"

"I don't know. I've never had it"

"I can bet you'll like Yuri's cooking. She's amazing, really"

"I see"

The both of them waited in silence, their heads both buried in their phones. Tony came back in ten minutes, telling them their table is ready and their meals were on the way. They were led to a different floor from where people were. It had an ambiguous atmosphere which made Giselle feel awkward.

They were both served the first course soon, which was Yakisoba noodles. Giselle had never seen a plate of noodles that fancy. The taste was even more impressive. Her awkwardness was soon forgotten with the good food.

When they were done, Tony came to clear the dishes and told them the next course was coming soon.

"What do you think?"

"It was good. No wonder you praised her"

"Ooh, Adam praised me? That's so rare these days" an older Asian girl in a pink apron said, leaning on Giselle's chair.

"...Yuri"

"Hey Adam, what's good?"

"I'm…."

"Yunno, when Tony told me you were here and with a companion too, it truly shocked me. You swore you would never come and now...tut tut tut, you're such a hypocrite"

"Yuri, can you not….."

"Hey there, what's your nam...."

"Nice to see you too, Miss Tomasi"

"Dr. Cheadle?"

"You two know each other?"

"Miss Tomasi is a patient of mine. I never expected her to be your friend. Speaking of which, she did tell me she owned a restaurant"

"Wow, how did you go and pick up my doctor? You're so strange Adam"

"Shut up, I don't want to hear that from you" Adam grumbled.

Yuri chuckled and took a chair, sitting at their table. Adam's glare did nothing to deter her.

"What did you go to a doctor for? Sexual addiction?" Adam bitterly asked.

"I abide by patient information confidentiality, Mr. Denver. That being said, Miss Tomasi doesn't have to tell you"

Adam pouted and said nothing till the next course arrived. They abided by the rule of not talking while eating and waited till they were all done. Yuri also grabbed a plate and ate with them.

"So, do you like it?" Yuri asked with a smile. Giselle returned her smile and nodded. Adam felt a weird tension in the air and the sense of exclusion Yuri was trying to create.

"Don't you have something to do, Yuri? Isn't Friday supposed to be a busy day for you?"

"Adam, you can't be more obvious in your efforts to chase me away. Fine, I'll go"

Adam could remember vividly in university, one event that shocked him to his bones. He knew Giselle was very attractive but didn't know she attracted girls too. He once saw a girl confessing her love to Giselle.

She was rejected but not as brutally as Giselle rejected boys. There were many other incidents like that too, and if he remembered correctly, up to 15 girls confessed to Giselle. He couldn't let Yuri stay longer.

"Mr. Denver, are you familiar with the term, white moonlight?"

"Please call me Adam and no, I'm not familiar with it"

"It is a chinese slang for a figure of adoration which cannot be obtained in someone's heart. Is that what I am to you?"

White moonlight is a frequent term in Chinese novels. Simply put, Adam is a simp
