A nurse came in and gently pulled Hank away.

He got up and stood near the doorway as other medical professionals hurried in, but he already knew what they would confirm.

He turned to walk down the hallway, feeling more alone than he ever had in his life, and wondered if Lula had actually told him about her memories.

How else could he have experienced them?

Now, as he sat here in the dark that seemed to grow chillier by the minute, he knew that, in some way, his and Lula’s minds, for the briefest moment, had become one.

It was that possibility that set him on his feet and made him begin the long walk home.

He now knew there was no reason to keep his feelings for Ollie a secret.
