Devils Among Men

In every world, it is a common fact that if you don't jump to a higher building, you will always live under the shadows of the taller building, unless you are lucky enough to crash while attempting to jump over. As a hitman in his past life, Gu Mickey knew this fact very well. Waking up in an anime he last saw 6 years before his death, where kind sages were the first devils and demons were even more sinister, Gu Mickey must use the power hidden among his discarded F-grade talent to rise to the top and find a way back home with his abilities intact. "Earth is a place where everything appears fine on the surface, but you can't help but wonder what secrets lie hidden behind closed doors. Why would I want to be anywhere else?"

Blood Ravens.

The technology of flight hasn't been created yet in Acoustic City, thus most of its residents view it as the whole world. Even so, there is no place out there more peaceful, technologically advanced, and beautiful like Acoustic City.

The feeling of seeing trees like they are running in the opposite direction as you only happens when you are sitting in a moving object. When one is in a rush, they barely notice such things, but when one is traveling for sightseeing, such a feeling is imprinted in the mind.

The gentle cool breeze that washes your face from an open window, that one passenger who is always trying to gather attention, not forgetting the flora and fauna of the outside world.

In a bus, there is always that child who makes noise, that couple that is either fighting or trying to flaunt how they love each other, that group of friends who try to keep it down but are actually making noise, and that one guy who is always giving you that bad guy feeling.

Mu Cho had met such a guy on the previous bus, and the image of that red-eyed mortal is still printed in his mind.

'Was he a ghost or something…? How can one have a calm look after seeing such, mm, ah!'

Mu Chu felt like throwing away the beef he ate for breakfast just by the thought of the pictures that were displayed on that boy's phone.

People were wounded, and barely any of them had all their limbs intact. Their insides were taken out, leaving a peculiar substance visible to the eye. Most importantly, these people had almost no blood in their corpses.

The black-haired boy Mu Chu saw earlier kept on viewing such pictures, and this didn't sit well with his heart.

A lump.

A lump had grown in his heart, and one name often came out of his lips, "Blood Ravens."

Those red-ravens lived by feeding on blood, and when a car accident happened near their residence, they would come and drink the blood of the people there. It was unknown whether they would kill the injured or not.

No one has put much attention to them except their arch-nemesis, the shadow crows, which feed on flesh.

Mu Chu, as a 2nd Stage Spirit Realm Book Lord with E-Grade talent, was just the same as everybody else; he didn't give blood ravens that much value. They were a bunch of lazy profound beasts who are always looking to enjoy the spoils of war of other beasts.

'Meeting that mortal was really an eye-opener! I need to do research on blood ravens, maybe I will even get awarded handsomely for it!'

The young man shook his head to suppress his desire for money, as he stared out the bus window showing a lush forest. "No! I need to do this for the people of Acoustic City! I am their hero!"

"Kid, shut the fuck up!" A pair of brothers who were sitting in front of him called out, and their grandfather quickly rebuked them.

"Boys, mind your mouth!" The grandfather on the seat next to Mu Chu turned to look at him with a haughty expression. "Kid! Shut the fuck up!"

"I am sorry." Mu Chu couldn't help but lower his head in front of such mortals.

"Humph! Kids these days! They always go hero this, hero that; they have no idea that being a hero creates a villain! The world is perfect without heroes, there won't be any villains then!"

Mu Chu just shrugged off the old man and looked at the window, 'I am sweating…but the weather is not that sunny today?'

He couldn't understand why, but the image of that boy from earlier popped up in his mind, and he felt a chill down his spine.

'Stupid bastard! He is making me have goosebumps all over. Should I stop the bus and go over and kill him?'

When Mu Chu was about to stand up, he noticed a red liquid tinted over the left collar of his shirt, "Where did this blood come from?!"

He had to halt his movements and inspect his clothes. He had no injuries and was sure that the blood wasn't his.

Then who was the owner of this blood?

He had no idea, but his heart started palpitating with fear, and the image of that boy who had his hand covered in bandages played again in his mind. He covertly muttered, "It must be him…"

Why did he do it?

Mu Chu had no idea.

Was this a prank to scare him?

He still didn't know.

Why did the blood have no smell?

At that last question, his mind felt like it was struck by lightning as he remembered the context of the civil war that happened over a thousand years ago.

Most of the information was distorted due to time, but Mu Chu still managed to get some clues.

They stated that in this civil war, the humans were facing humanoid creatures who fed on blood. When these creatures died, their blood had no scent at all, like the wind.

Was the boy he met earlier related to these creatures?

Definitely!

'How could a normal person stay calm after seeing such a devastating scene?'

'I should report this to the council of elders!'

Mu Chu was so drained in his thoughts that he didn't notice the group of malevolent black eyes staring at him from the window. All he noticed were a group of red feathers falling to the ground.

"Eh, what is that? What are blood ravens doing here?"

What he didn't know was the profound beasts were attracted to the feeling of the blood on his shoulder. They were born with an innate ability to sense blood even without the help of their noses.

Bam!

Mu Chu was suddenly tossed to the side of the bus. The driver had lost control; he tried to avoid hitting the flock of blood ravens blocking his sight but ended up going off track.

Kweee!

The steering wheel twisted in a complete revolution a couple of times.

Mu Chu was a Book Lord, but the grimoires he had all had support spells. They were of no use in this situation. His expression turned pale from horror, "So this…is why there are more road…accidents in the north—!"

His words came to a sudden stop as the bus fell into a trench. The driver had lost control, and it was now rotating.

From the first clash, Mu Chu crashed against the wall, leaving a head injury. The second time, his head crashed into the window, leaving small glass particles in his skin.

On the third time, he crashed against the roof again. His head landed in a pretty bad spot that caused it to twist to the side, as it got pushed around by his body.

On the fourth spin, the bus sat in its original position, and all the passengers fell to the ground, but unlike the last time, they were all dead!

A river of blood flooded the broken bus. The sides were all shattered and the roof was long gone, letting the stinging stench of blood lift into the air.

A couple of dark eyes who were staring at this scene were pleased, as they swiftly descended to the ground.

Red feathers fell to the ground as a cloud of red ravens rushed to the scene of the accident. For a moment, the northern outskirts' skies were covered in red like blood was going to rain down.

In a matter of seconds, the whole red cloud landed on the broken bus and began feasting on the blood on the ground.

They stepped on the broken bones and the human blood tubes, including even the genitals.

They didn't eat all this and just drank the blood on the floor.

A few feet away from this sight stood a dark-haired boy dressed in green clothes, making him blend in with the trees.

He was on top of a tree branch, picking up a small hatchling that still had its eyes closed. Its body was beyond the levels of being frail and it almost lacked any feathers.

He knew it could die from any forceful action, but also didn't climb another tree again. The mother blood raven could come any minute if he kept wasting time.

His lips curled up into a smile. "Now for the hardest part. Being a parent."

Most Book Lords would use spells to tame beasts, but Mickey didn't have enough money to waste on buying a spirit realm grimoires that cost over 10 million spirit coins.

The method Mickey chose was the hardest, but it would create a special bond between the beast and the Book Lord that even spells can't break. Most Book Lords don't want to waste time being a parent, since the process of baby feeding is the hardest. They would want an adult beast that will go look for its own food if told so.

However, blood ravens were different; they only fed on blood.

Mickey planned to give this hatchling his own blood, creating a bond like that of a mother and child through breastfeeding.

This was all Mickey's theory, and he needed to execute the plan to know the side effects.
