Lending A Helping Hand

"There's no need for that, I don't care where it is she went. I don't want her going into the wrong room. What if she had barged into my private chamber. I told you to keep her occupied" Leon said in irritation and Brenda who was pressed behind the door couldn't believe what she was hearing "Is she gone?"

"Your highness, I escorted the young miss into the carriage"

"Good, now go look for my wife"

"Yes, your highness" their voices could no longer be heard and their footsteps got distant

Wife? He still regarded her as his wife? Who was she kidding, he was a prince, he was bound to have mistresses

"You just had to get married to Leon" Alexander's voice snapped her from her reverie. She looked up at him, what was that she saw in his eyes. Sadness? Or was it anger? She couldn't tell

"He is the crown prince, he is very likely supposed to have other women as long as it's not on our bed" she replied

"Oh? How do you know he hasn't had anyone on your bed? Before you arrived?"

"Excuse me, your highness" Brenda stepped away from him "As you had heard, my husband is looking for me" and she left

"I guess the right time is not always right" he said to himself and once again blew out the candles, engulfing himself into the darkness

Brenda hurried herself into her room and rested her back against the door. She closed her eyes, trying to calm herself. She then recalled the words of her mother on the night before her wedding

"You have to behave like a noble lady, dear. Be clingy to your husband, make sure he has no other woman outside. You'll get to rule with him when his father steps down" Greta stated, a smile on her lips "That was how I was able to tie down your father"

"But he still found his way into the arms of another woman" Brenda said unhappily

"Don't try to insult me, child. You want another woman to take your place? Do you? Do you want to be in my shoes after finding out your father's hideous affair that led to the worst mistake? That led to Orchid?" Greta yelled "Be close enough to your husband before he finds comfort in another. I don't want that to happen, if it does...take it that you're no longer part of this family"

Greta had warned her but it was inevitable. Why was it so hard being a princess? A marriage without love? The husband's affairs?

Brenda hissed tiredly

In the courtroom, King Mathias sat on his mighty throne with the crown prince sitting at his right and the prince at his left

"An abrupt riot broke out, your majesty" said one of the ministers in the courtroom. They were the right and left state minsters. The right were in favor of the crown prince and the left ministers were in full support of the prince

"Riot? What caused this unusual riot?" the King asked

"Your majesty, it is not in my place to say this. I think it might upset you"

"Speak!"

"Your majesty, the people think you're no longer fit to sit on the throne. They ask for you to step down and hand it over to the next ruler, the crown prince" said one of the right state ministers, passing a hidden grin to the crown prince

"Why would the people think that, minister Rai? His majesty is very well fit to sit on the throne" questioned the crown prince

"I don't know, your highness. But the people are very demanding"

"Why would they demand such, head state minister? A precipitous riot breaking out? The people couldn't just bring it up all of a sudden" Prince Ciaran said, going to stare at the crown prince "Looks like someone is getting impatient"

"We agree with the prince, Your Majesty. The people couldn't just come up with the idea. It definitely was planned" said the head state minister, ruling the left

"What are you saying, minister Roo? If we don't heed to the people's demand, this riot might lead to something more extreme"

"Why do I sense the urgency in your voice, Rai?" the head state minister turned to look at the prince

"Isn't this an urgent matter, your highness?"

"It is but it is merely a protest, it'll die down in a while. But if it is so urgent then I'll take it upon myself to look into it"

"Your highness, there is no need for that"

"Why not, Rai?"

"Because my men are already investigating the reason for the riot. You don't have to bother about it" Rudolf said, his gum twisting in annoyance

"I don't mind lending a helping hand, it'll make the investigation proceed faster"

"Again I say, brother. I'm taking care of the matter"

The head ministers are Rai and Roo. Rai, the right state minister, is derived from the word 'Stone money'. And Roo, the left state minister, means Peace. Perfect names right? 😁😁
