A calm look immediately wore itself over Dae Hyun's face as he opened the door to meet the two detectives that had been on his tail, inspector Do and inspector Han.
"Good morning officers, what are you doing at my house so early in the morning?" Dae Hyun immediately queried once he opened the door. He could see a smugly look on Inspector Han's face which made him wonder what brought them there.
"Let's come in and talk." Inspector Han said but Dae Hyun didn't budge from the door side, blocking their way.
"I've had enough with your baseless accusations and leads, if you don't have a warrant, then I can't let you come in, have a nice day." Dae Hyun said and with that, he was about to close the door but the officer placed his foot first, preventing the door from shutting close.
"We have a warrant." The officer said as he brought out a piece of paper but Dae Hyun didn't bother reading it and just let them in.
He wondered why they were given a warrant which made him a bit alarmed that they might have gotten a lead on him, but no strong evidence as they would have taken him in as a suspect if they had one, so he relaxed.
Min Hye watched as the officers came in which made her crease her brows in displeasure, wondering why they were there.
"What you did for those scholarship students from Elites High was quite a humble thing to do." The detective said as the went in, making a small smile cross Dae Hyun's lips as he pushed his glasses up slightly.
"Ahh, I felt bad for them, it was quite a horrible thing for their classmates to do to them." Dae Hyun said with a grim look on his face as they moved towards the living room.
"Yes, kids nowadays, I really don't know what they're thinking, huh?" Inspector Do said and Dae Hyun nodded in response not saying anymore, he offered refreshments, but they refused.
"We'd like your wife to join in the questioning." Inspector Han said as soon as they sat down and Dae Hyun complied as he brought Min Hye with him, after all they had nothing to hide, was the vibe they both gave off as they sat on the couch, awaiting the questioning to begin.
"What is this about? I'd like for you to go straight to the point, we were both busy before you interrupted." Dae Hyun informed the detectives in an impatient tone as he was still annoyed about the detectives interrupting he and Min Hye in the middle of their romance.
"Yes, sure. Just last night, a man came to make a report about his missing brother, he confessed to us that they were both burglars and since the night of his brother's last burglary, he's been missing, about three month ago before you got married." Inspector Han said and Dae Hyun immediately realized where they were heading to.
"So...what about it? I won't be surprised if you're accusing me to be the brother of the burglar that went missing." Dae Hyun said with a tone of mockery, a sardonic smirk curving on his lips as he spoke.
"Technically, his brother had planned out the burglary and his victim, which meant that he had been planning to burgle your wife's house because he realized she lived alone and there was less security so it would have been an easy in an out, but I guess it wasn't." Inspector Han said and Min Hye's mind drifted to the burglar she had killed.
They both hadn't planned for it, they had cleared out all the evidence that a burglary and murder had taken place in her house but sometimes, even the most perfect of plans didn't always work out perfectly and she just realized that.
The whole place fell silent for a minute with only the ticking of the clock heard and the chirping of the birds outside their garden. Dae Hyun broke the unnerving silence hanging heavily in the air that had grown tense all of a sudden, but not because of the accusation, but because of Dae Hyun's sudden switch in his facial expression that suddenly turned grave.
He didn't see any need in pretending to the two officers, he'd have to get rid of them both eventually, they were both a living stain to his publicity.
"Min Hye didn't come across any burglar or she'd have told me, probably because she spent more time with me so the burglary might have taken place when she was at my place." Dae Hyun stated with a serious expression, but doubts were still written on both inspectors faces.
"If that's so, then where did the burglar run off to?" Inspector Do inquired as if he would know, even though he was very well aware of the fact that he had single handedly buried him approximately five feet underneath the ground in the woods.
"Why ask me? Do I look like I take burglars in?" Dae Hyun retorted back with a rhetorical question which made the inspectors face twist with anger.
"Your wife hasn't said a word even though she was the victim here, so I'd like to get her statement instead." The detective said, referring to Min Hye who had been sitting quietly all through while watching everyone speak but her, not contributing a word to their discussion as she wasn't in any way interested.
"What do you want me to say? That I killed the burglar?" Her sudden reply threw them in a state of perplexity.
"We're only asking you if you witnessed a burglary take place in your house." The detective said in a calm but intimidating way as he locked his gaze with her but she didn't flinch even a bit.
"No, I didn't so you can leave now, it's quite annoying to watch you guys act so pathetically in trying to frame my husband with all kinds of crime, first it was the anonymous gift killer and now it's the disappearance of a burglar? Aissh this is so annoying, you just ruined a good morning for me." Min Hye complained, as she blurted out her thoughts with a frown on her face as she was already annoyed with their disturbances.
The detectives pressed their lips in a thin line, slightly embarrassed and offended by her remark, while Dae Hyun had an imaginary smirk on his face as he gave her a perplexed look.
"We're not accusing your husband with any crimes, we're just trying to make sense of all the leads and connections pointing to him, we're doing our job here madam so I don't appreciate it if you talk to us in such way, we're only doing our job to protect the people and we're obliged to follow the law." Detective Do chipped in.
Min Hye scoffed in disbelief as the frown on her face deepened, she had her full of the bullshit they were spouting from their mouth and she felt as though she was about to explode in anger any time soon.
"If you want to help people, then catch real criminals instead of running from house to house with stupid questions and accusing innocent people, it won't get you anywhere, so do something useful with your time and put real criminals behind bars." Min Hye said with a low voice and an expressionless face, causing the detectives to lose their tempers.
"Hey!! You better watch your mouth or it'll take you to prison!!" Detective Han threatened as he abruptly sprang up from the chair in anger but Detective Do held him back, calming him down.
"We're leaving now." Detective Do said, dragging the vexing Detective with him out of the house until the disappeared from their sight.
A smirk cut through Dae Hyun's lips as he stared at her.
"They're so annoying and ridiculous, I mean why bother asking stupid questions when there's no evidence?" Min Hye asked rhetorically.
"Don't worry, they won't disturb us anymore." Dae Hyun promised as he made her sit on his lap with her back facing him but she turned her face to meet his as he spoke.
"You'll be careful right? You know they're detectives." Min Hye said with a slightly worried expression.
"I've always been careful." He said with a devilish grin sitting on his lips.
