I’m Back

The first thing Nathan did as soon as he left the warehouse was to take off his poison-filled mask and put it inside his coat.

Fortunately the poison didn't touched his face, or Nathan would have been in big trouble, even so, right now he had another problem in front of him.

'Materialize and guide me!' Nathan mentally shouted to Amelia who reacted surprised and hesitantly.

'If I do that we'll be like a beacon for calamities!'

'We are covered by the barrier, as long as we don't get out of it they won't attack us!'

Amelia still hesitated, but it didn't take long for her to materialize and appear in the form of an orb of light that immediately drew the attention of all the calamities around.

'You're only a few meters away from leaving the perimeter' Amelia alerted Nathan, who quickly stopped as he gasped for air.

With the muscles in his face still numb, Nathan made a great effort to open his eyelids, but quickly closed them when he felt a burning sensation.

Clicking his tongue, he stood still, trying to find his bearings with Amelia's help.

Nathan had been observing the warehouse for some time, so with Amelia's directions he was able to find his way around relatively well. However, as all the calamities watched him as they roared, Nathan sensed a change in the surroundings, something almost imperceptible.

'See anything?'

Amelia looked at her surroundings for a few seconds before denying.

'Not really, everything's still... the same. Damn it, run!'

Nathan was startled to hear Amelia's sudden scream, then cut off the calamity he had heard approaching him.

'What happened to the barrier?!' Nathan complained as he cut down another calamity without being able to see it.

The calamities all ran in unison as if they had suddenly reacted to something that wasn't there before.

Nathan cursed as he barely dodged the sharp claws of a calamity. In the meantime, Amelia was trying to give him as effective directions as possible, but with so many calamities around, it was simply impossible.

While he continued to fight for his life, increasingly cornered against the walls of the warehouse, Amelia slowly began to panic as she searched for anything around her that could help him, but no matter when she looked, she simply saw no way to help Nathan.

Right now everything was in Nathan's hands, while Amelia could only watch, realizing that her directions were only slowing Nathan down.

That made her feel bad... weak and worse than anything else, a burden.

Nathan still could not open his eyes, so his body was getting more and more wounded and more importantly, he was not sure if his premonitions of death would work if he could not see.

For that reason he did not fight as aggressively as usual and stood aside just defending himself.

The calamities were not very strong, not that there were that many, maybe a few dozen, something Nathan could take care of if he had a plan, some of his limbs were not numb and if he could see.

Nathan cut down another calamity without knowing what this one looked like, he only felt the fresh warm blood fall on his face, then quickly in his free hand still numb but less than before, Adan's black fang appeared again, which he jabbed into the neck of another calamity before thrusting his body over others, pushing them away as he stepped back.

Then his back slammed into the outer wall of the warehouse, leaving him with no options to retreat.

'Ugh, damn it!' Growling in annoyance, Nathan threw his body to the side dodging a calamity that was trying to devour him.

The moment Nathan dodged, the calamity hit the wall of the warehouse and its ancient and dilapidated walls could not withstand the thrust of the calamity's force and collapsed inward.

It was then that an avalanche of calamity reached him, forcing him to retreat back into the warehouse, but as he could not see where he was standing, Nathan tripped over one of the debris of the destroyed wall and fell backwards to the ground.

He had no time to react and was only able to raise his katana and block the bite of a calamity.

The good part was that the calamities were loud, and Nathan could locate and defend himself against them thanks to his ears, the bad part was that he was now on the ground with dozens of calamities waiting to pounce on him.

Even the calamity that had previously destroyed the wall of the warehouse had risen again, and again lunged for him.

Nathan did not have infinite arms, so he was unable to defend himself against the calamity's attack.

With his life in danger, Nathan filled his muscles with essence in an attempt to try something, but he knew it was useless... It was then that something shimmered inside the warehouse, blinding the calamity momentarily.

Nathan felt his essence being consumed at that very moment, but it was nothing he could not resist, so taking advantage of the fact that the calamities were momentarily blinded and stunned, he pushed the calamity on top of him with his legs, quickly stood up and stepped back.

He could see through his eyelids the flash of light, so he understood that Amelia had done something.

Without thinking too much, Nathan turned around and shouted internally.

'Show me the stairs!'

''Move two meters to your left and run in a straight line for ten meters!''

Amelia didn't even bother to nod and instead started directly with the directions. Nathan could sense something strange in Amelia's voice, but he did not have time to think about it too much and followed her directions.

Running as Amelia had told him, he kept going through the tangled interior of the warehouse, slightly bumping his shoulders without calculating the distances properly, then finally arrived at the stairs from before.

Hearing the dozens of calamities following behind him that had already recovered, Nathan quickly climbed the stairs and found himself back in the room from before.

"I'm back, you son of a bitch!"
