Hearing Erman's words, we fell silent for a few seconds, unsure of what to say. According to Erman, his granddaughter's days were numbered unless we could find something in the portal that could cure her. However, to be honest, I didn't really have hope of finding something like that.

"I'm so sorry to hear that"

That was all I could manage to say. I mean, I really understood Erman; if the same happened to Ruby, I would do anything to save her. However, we hadn't known each other for long, and I had never seen Erman's granddaughter, so I didn't have any particular attachment to her.

"Don't worry, it's not like you're doing this out of charity. If you manage to find something in the portal that cures my granddaughter, I promise you'll be well rewarded"

Ellen, Ilya, and I exchanged brief glances after Erman's words. Moments later, we nodded to him. Anyway, we had no reason to contest what he said.
