Feeling the hazy halo of light around him, Robin found himself being dragged along. He moved his dry lips and tried his best to lift his heavy eyelids.
The light was very dim, which allowed his eyes to adjust quicker. He saw a shadowy figure, wearing a tight suit without a mask. It wasn't Nightwing judging by the figure.
Robin dared not make a sound, for he realized what was going on. He feigned unconsciousness, and besides, there was nothing much he could do as he had no control over his limbs.
In the darkness, he heard a somewhat familiar voice.
"I would love to say... but I am a bit busy now..."
Peter... it was Peter Parker indeed. Robin shut his eyes with pain. Did his active pursuit let Batman drop his guard? Why wasn't his new assistant screened?
Batman wouldn't be this careless. How did this Peter Parker fool Batman?
After the entire city fell unconscious, Robin went to investigate. He knew where the equipment that monitors the city's airflow was located. He immediately rushed to the Weather Control Center in the Wayne Tower as soon as the mishap occurred.
Robin, in his astuteness, didn't directly go to the central hall of the Weather Controller, but to the Monitoring Room in Wayne Tower, from where he accessed the surveillance of the Weather Control Center.
So, he witnessed the whole process of Peter injecting a mass of red slime into Arkham Knight.
More importantly, he saw Peter remove Arkham Knight's mask, and the face that appeared behind it was none other than Jason Todd, whose photograph was in the Batcave.
Robin was shocked at the scene. Was Peter Parker responsible for Jason Todd's disappearance?
Even if not, he attacked Jason and injected some horrifying, unknown substance into him.
Robin immediately realized something was off about Peter Parker, but the moment he wanted to contact Batman, he found out his communicator's signal channel was blocked, and then he was attacked.
Well, Peter Parker was definitely up to something, because Batman would have favored all Robins to call him anytime; he wouldn't block anyone's communication channel.
Prophet doesn't have any motive to do so. Moreover, Barbara just gave him a communicator to contact Nightwing. She would want everyone to stay connected. So, she wouldn't block communications.
Who else has such authority then? Probably the recent unexpected guest in the Batcave, the kid known as Spider Man.
Peter Parker didn't arrive just today. He has been here for a while, but Robin hadn't met him until a few days ago when they apprehended the Riddler. It was then Robin experienced his competency.
This guy, with spider-like mutation abilities, can sling spider silk and climb walls at a fast pace. What's more, he's overwhelmingly strong, which Robin thought wasn't typically Batman's style when recruiting assistants.
But now, it made sense. Batman's assistant being a super-criminal or something fits his consistently unlucky style.
At that moment, another shadowy figure approached. Robin rolled his eyes upward to see clearly without getting noticed, but soon the figure started speaking.
"Ah, the Gordons and Batman's Robin, what exactly are you up to? Withdraw now, Peter! I can't accompany you in this madness anymore."
"Miss Poison Ivy, please have some awareness of a super-criminal. Besides, you've only anesthetized them, not killed them."
"Why don't you have the consciousness of a superhero's assistant?! You've ruined Gotham City twice and are now trying to annihilate Batman Family. Your glorious track record now surpasses the Joker!"
Heaving a sigh, Spider Man stuffed Robin into the deepest part of the van after getting in himself, then, sitting in the driver's seat, looked at Poison Ivy, "If you don't go with me and Batman catches you alone, you definitely won't be able to keep your limbs."
"But if I go with you, I definitely won't be able to keep my life!"
"Well, that's for the future. Trust me, Batman won't go mad. He is in a relief period now and is engrossed in thinking, which will make him temporarily ignore the happenings of reality. We need to seize this opportunity to quickly eliminate the evidence."
Poison Ivy, while helpless, eventually got into the van. She knew if she didn't have Peter, who is an expert planner, she would be caught by Batman in no time.
With city destructions, family members being captured, and Poison Ivy absolutely terrified imagining what Batman would do to her to get leads, she was certainly not from the Joker Clan which was known for its regenerative abilities.
The van raced through the city, going on and on. Robin couldn't discern the direction of the van, but from the light leaking in through the door of the van, it seemed they were leaving the city area.
Concentrating on the commotion inside the van, he heard Peter and Poison Ivy getting out of the van. So, he tried his hardest to wake up, regain control of his limbs, and run away.
But that numbing feeling persisted, Robin speculated it was likely the plant toxin. It was very troublesome; without specific medication, it was impossible to overcome it by metabolism alone.
Having failed in recovering after some time, Robin started considering alternate ways, like contacting Batman using his communicator. But at that moment, the van door was opened again.
