Morsan is currently healing an injured demi-human girl with dog ears and a tail. She was imprisoned in a dark and cold place for a long time, and she caught a severe fever. Morsan uses his [Enhancement Magic] to boost her immunity like he did to Vigeil's sister while priests from the church were healing her.
Her body recovered at insane speed, she looked at the Morsan and priest with grateful and teary eyes for their help.
But Morsan didn't pay attention to her reaction since he was talking about recent events he experienced with Tizona in his mind.
'...No matter how many times I witness these kinds of incidents, despite witnessing these scenes repeatedly, the impact never lessens. Each incident leaves an indelible mark on my soul, a reminder of the fragility of life and the unpredictability of human nature in this world I live in. I can never become accustomed to witnessing such scenes...'
"You don't have to get used to it... you're already doing fine... you don't have to be accustomed to witnessing such scenes... just try to don't get angry at the people who were already doing their best to be better... okay?"
Morsan couldn't help but roll his eyes in disagreement as he heard Tizona.
'If only they had recruited additional shadows, their work could have been accomplished with greater efficiency. If they were unable to locate more skilled and devoted individuals, they could have enlisted more slaves and provided them with training to fulfill the role of shadows. Despite the potential time investment, the outcome would have been completely worthwhile as these shadows would never have the ability to betray their master. They could have saved more people, don't you think?'
"...I understand your perspective and can see why you might think using a curse to enforce loyalty could be effective in this situation. However, in the case of Egone, it simply wouldn't work. Egone's position as the prince of the land meant that he needed the support and loyalty of his subjects to effectively govern and lead.
Unlike a businessman or merchant who may only need the loyalty of their employees to ensure productivity and profit, Egone's role required him to inspire trust and confidence in his people. Using a curse to force loyalty would only breed resentment and fear among his subjects, ultimately undermining his ability to lead effectively.
Furthermore, Egone recognized the importance of maintaining a moral compass in his quest for rulership. He understood that ruling through fear and manipulation would erode the trust and faith that his subjects had in him. To be a successful ruler, he needed the genuine support and loyalty of his people, not just their obedience out of fear.
Having subordinates who despise you can be even more dangerous than having enemies. When people despise their leader, they may actively work against them, undermine their authority, or even plot rebellion. This internal strife can lead to instability and chaos within the kingdom, making it difficult for Egone to achieve his goals and maintain control.
Ultimately, Egone's decision to reject the use of a curse to enforce loyalty was a wise one. By prioritizing trust, faith, and genuine loyalty from his subjects, he was able to build a strong foundation for his rule and ensure the stability and prosperity of his kingdom."
"... Tsk, moral values were more important than the lives of the people huh?"
"Depending on the situation... yeah... it is..."
Morsan found it impossible to refrain from denouncing everyone as hypocrites. Even though slaves can attain freedom after saving numerous lives, there is no way to bring back those who have lost their lives.
Lost in his world, Morsan continues to tend to the girl's injuries.
He is determined to ensure her full recovery, pouring his energy and magic into her healing process. Little does he know, his actions have not only saved her from her dire circumstances but have also given her hope and a renewed sense of gratitude for the kindness of others.
After concluding the treatment of her health, a priest approached him and discreetly informed him about an individual eagerly anticipating his presence outside.
Gazing through the outside, Morsan caught sight of a young lad, approximately 14 years of age, possessing lustrous dark brown hair, captivating emerald eyes, and a countenance adorned with freckles.
'Vigeil?'
Morsan's expression turned to one of bewilderment upon witnessing Vigeil's arrival.
Just as Morsan was about to request a momentary break, the priest who passed the message of Vigeil's arrival, approached him with a gentle voice and sincere words.
"Sir, you have tirelessly tended to the needs of all these individuals without pausing. Your dedication and selflessness are truly commendable. We will handle her care from this point onward. You have done more than enough, and it is time for you to allow yourself some well-deserved rest."
Morsan couldn't help but question a lot of things as he came out of the room after he thanked the priest for his understanding.
'Why did he come here at this time? his sister only physically recovered but her mental wounds didn't. He should have been with his sister after all. Did something happen to his sister? I am so sure that I healed her completely. Why did he come to see me?'
Vigeil's hollow-like eyes were met by him. With a hint of hesitation, Vigeil proceeded to open his mouth.
"Sir, may I have a moment of your time to speak with you privately?"
As Morsan looked around, he saw a lot of people busily moving around to treat their patients.
"Mm.."
As Vigeil followed Morsan's lead, they walked through the bustling encampment, the air filled with the sounds of chatter and activity. Morsan's presence commanded respect, and those they passed greeted him with a mixture of admiration and deference.
Finally, they arrived at a secluded spot tucked away at the rear of the encampment. Surrounded by tall trees and hidden from prying eyes, it was a sanctuary away from the chaos of the camp. The tranquility of this place was palpable as if nature itself had conspired to create a haven of peace.
Morsan's eyes were drawn upward, captivated by the sight of the half-moon hanging in the sky. Its soft glow illuminated the surrounding clouds, casting an ethereal light upon the world below. The moon seemed to be suspended in time, a celestial guardian watching over the encampment and all who resided within it.
As Morsan gazed at this picturesque scene, a sense of tranquility washed over him. The worries and burdens that had weighed heavily on his mind seemed to dissipate, replaced by a profound sense of calm.
The half-moon, partially obscured by drifting clouds, symbolized the fleeting nature of life and the ever-changing world. It reminded him to appreciate the present moment and to find solace in the beauty that surrounded him.
Morsan shifted his attention away from the moon and directed it towards Vigeil. His gaze became more focused as he observed the money pouch that Vigeil took out.
The pouch was a diminutive, weathered leather bag, displaying frayed seams and a surface tarnished by dirt and filth. As Morsan glanced back at Vigeil, he detected a hint of hesitation and a fleeting moment of uncertainty in his eyes.
