The Malevolent Desires of a Power-Hungry Heart

After Madam Chi got up from her sleep and freshened herself, Zhang Wei approached her with a sense of urgency. He needed to find an immortal technique in the Long family that could protect his memory, no matter what. If the family didn't have it, he instructed Madam Chi to ask her grandfather for it.

Madam Chi assured Zhang Wei that she would do her best to find the technique for him. With a nod, Zhang Wei left the room, leaving Madam Chi to wonder what was so important about this technique.

Later that day, Emperor Azura left the Long family mansion. Zhang Wei watched from a distance and could tell by the emperor's happy expression that their cooperation had gone well. The Long family head even personally escorted them out and presented them with many gifts.

As they were leaving, Madam Chi's third sister bid her family farewell as she and her husband were leaving, but their son Prince Chang would stay behind in the Long family. He would be going to the immortal holy land with his great-grandfather Long. Zhang Wei watched as Emperor entered the teleportation array with a happy expression on his face.

Zhang Wei watched from afar, feeling jealous of Emperor Azura's happiness, but he knew he had to be patient. He would have everything he wanted once he became more powerful, be it beauty or wealth.

Madam Chi spent three days searching for the immortal technique but to no avail. She even asked her grandfather, who was surprised that she was looking for such a rare technique. He asked her why she needed it, and she gave a vague answer that it was for a family member. Her grandfather told her that even the main Long family didn't have such a technique, and she was disappointed to hear this.

But then her grandfather remembered that he had obtained a remnant technique from an ancient ruin during his travels. It was of unknown rank and mostly incomplete, but if cultivated, it could do similar things as the technique Madam Chi was looking for. He cautioned her that he had tested the technique on some slaves, and they had all gone insane.

Madam Chi's eyes shone at the thought of having a technique that could help Zhang Wei protect his memory. But when her grandfather mentioned the dangers of the technique, her excitement dimmed. Still, she asked her grandfather to give her the technique, saying it was better than nothing.

Her grandfather agreed to give her the technique but warned her that it should only be used as a last resort.

Madam Chi left her grandfather's study with the remnant technique in hand. She made her way back to her room, where Zhang Wei was waiting anxiously. She told him everything her grandfather had said about the technique and the risks involved. Finally, she handed him the technique, and Zhang Wei took it eagerly.

Although Zhang Wei was disappointed that the technique was incomplete, he knew that this only proved how precious soul-type immortal techniques were. He began to study the technique attentively, seeing that the middle part of it was complete. This part couldn't protect the memory, but it could transfer memories from one person's soul to another. Just by looking at this part, Zhang Wei could tell that the technique's level might not be low. However, without the first part, no one could cultivate it.

According to Zhang Wei's guess, the first part involved creating a blank soul that could receive memories. Without a blank soul, a person could go crazy due to memory conflict. This made the first part the most important.

To others, the missing first part might be a problem, but to Zhang Wei, it was exactly what he needed. The Boundless Sutra could create a blank soul for him, and now he was confident that he could get rid of any future troubles that might arise.

Zhang Wei was happy in his heart and in a good mood. Madam Chi had just given him an incomplete soul type immortal technique that might help protect his memory. He put away the technique and then suddenly asked her, "Do you know what the discussion of your grandfather and Emperor Azura was about?"

She said, "It's nothing important. The demon clan wants some mortals as sacrifice. So Azura is going to give half of the number of people from his dynasty in exchange for realm breaking pills. No big deal."

Hearing this, Zhang Wei first felt shock, then anger in his heart. Sacrificing human lives for a pill was outrageous, and he couldn't believe that a deity would approve of it. But he controlled his emotions and asked again, "How many people are they going to give to the demon?"

Madam Chi replied, "10 billion."

Zhang Wei was astounded. Ten billion people was not a small amount, and he couldn't believe that everyone in the immortal world would agree to this. But Madam Chi assured him that it was the direct order of a deity.

As he listened to her words, Zhang Wei felt anger rush to his head. In his heart, he thought, "Before, I thought doing harm to women and using everyone who blocks my way as a stepping stone was really evil. Sometimes, I had double thoughts about my motives whether I should go through with it. But now, I understand that in this dog-eat-dog world, only power matters. Compared to these so-called righteous immortals, I am simply a saint."

With that, Zhang Wei became more determined to follow his own path, the path of evil and blood.
