Crimson Genesis: Vengeance of Genetic Evolution

In a dystopian alternate reality where genetic experimentation has gone wrong, and cybernetic ascension is the new focus, Alex, a high schooler, awakens in a clandestine laboratory only to discover he's been reincarnated as a clone of an ancient, shape-shifting humanoid. Alex attempts to escape captivity, only to be thwarted by his classmates, now cybernetic puppets of the world government organisation “Ascension”, who cruelly shoot Alex in the head despite recognising him. Mysteriously surviving the killing blow, Alex awakens in a wasteyard of the Genesis District, where all failed genetic experiments, derogatorily referred to as the “Flawed”, live in misery and oppression. Enraged by the betrayal of his classmates and the inhumane treatment of the Flawed, Alex sets on a path of vengeance and revolution, unearthing dark secrets about a lost and forgotten past, opposing Ascension, and discovering his evolutionary potential…which may turn out to be more powerful than he could ever imagine… --- Upload Schedule --- Guaranteed Upload: Mon, Wed, Fri *Release timings are not fixed, will vary due to author's real life schedule, might change in the future, depending on reader comments / reviews.

Unraveling Realities

As Alex remained trapped within the glass-encased chamber, the muffled voices of the figures outside reached his ears. Straining to catch their words, he could hear a mix of astonishment and excitement in their tones.

"I can't believe it actually worked," one of them exclaimed, their voices filled with incredulous wonder. "And look, he's awake." Another figure loomed over the chamber, peering down at Alex as if observing a zoo animal from above. "He seems to have retained some form of intelligence, too. This is completely unprecedented!"

Another voice chimed in, equally amazed. "I never thought we'd see the day. We were all convinced this experiment would fail. Using an unknown ancient creature's DNA was a shot in the dark."

The name that followed sent a chill down Alex's spine. "Dr. Caesar must be elated. Everyone thought he was crazy to even attempt such a radical combination of genetics."

"Dr. Caesar," Alex repeated silently, committing the name to memory.

The pieces of his predicament were slowly starting to fit together. The injection in his classroom, the subsequent blackout, and now, this twisted experiment. Whoever this Dr. Caesar was, he seemed to be the mastermind behind the whole operation.

"Still, we need to proceed cautiously," the first voice continued. "We have no idea what kind of abilities he might have or how stable this genetic combination truly is."

Alex's mind raced. He had to find a way out of this chamber, confront Dr. Caesar, and uncover the full extent of what had been done to him. But for now, he needed to remain calm and gather as much information as possible.

The figures continued their discussion; Alex watched with growing dread as several others approached the chamber, carrying medical devices and tools. It seemed they were preparing to conduct potentially painful procedures, further cementing Alex's resolve to escape and uncover the truth behind his transformation.

Before the figures opened the chamber, they gathered at the nearby control panel, their movements swift and purposeful as they punched buttons with practised precision. With a soft whirring sound, robotic arms emerged from the sides of the chamber, their metallic appendages moving with unnerving accuracy to restrain Alex's body. Despite the mounting panic within him, Alex forced himself to remain outwardly calm, his mind racing with a flurry of thoughts and fears.

As the restraints secured him in place, the chamber doors slid open, revealing the figures waiting outside. With gentle yet firm hands, they lifted Alex from the chamber and began transporting him down a long, dimly lit corridor. The journey was slow and methodical, each step echoing ominously in the sterile silence of the facility.

Alex strained to discern any distinguishing features about his surroundings as they moved, but the corridor offered little clues. Its walls were smooth and featureless, illuminated by harsh fluorescent lights that cast stark shadows across the floor. Occasionally, they passed by closed doors, their surfaces devoid of markings or identifiers.

After an eternity, they arrived at their destination—a nondescript room with sterile white walls and gleaming metal equipment. The figures placed Alex on a cold, metallic table, their movements efficient and clinical. As the figures hooked Alex up to the equipment, their excitement was palpable.

"His vitals are unbelievably stable," one of the figures remarked with a hint of awe in their voice.

"Yeah, and check out his readings on the GPI," another exclaimed, pointing excitedly at the monitor. "They're off the charts!"

"Absolutely remarkable," a third figure chimed in, nodding in agreement. "Dr. Caesar wasn't kidding about the potential of this genetic combination."

"It's like nothing we've ever seen before," the first figure added, their tone tinged with excitement. "This could revolutionise genetic experimentation as we know it."

Alex's mind raced with questions and fear. "Unbelievably stable vitals," he thought, his calm exterior masking the turmoil within. What did they mean by that? Were his vital signs different from what they expected? Maybe it's a good thing?

And then, there was the mention of a "GPI". Alex couldn't help but shudder at the unfamiliar term. It sounded important, but he had no idea what it meant. Maybe it was some kind of measurement since it was "off the charts"? Whatever it was, it sounded serious. "What on earth did they do to me?"

He didn't understand the science jargon, but he knew one thing for sure: whatever they were planning couldn't be good. As they prepared to move forward, he couldn't shake the fear that whatever came next would change him in ways he couldn't even begin to comprehend. "Or the changes have already happened, and I just don't…"

Before Alex could finish that thought, a figure stood beside the table and raised the incline, positioning Alex to face a room-wide glass window. Behind it, several figures sat at a table adorned with complex machinery, and a single familiar figure stood in front of what appeared to be a microphone. Alex's heart raced as he realised he was being observed, studied like a specimen under a microscope.

A clear and authoritative voice suddenly echoed through the room: "Everyone in Room Discourse, this is Dr. Caesar. I'll be overseeing this experiment. Are we all ready to proceed?"

After everyone in the room had affirmed their readiness, the room dimmed, and a sudden beam of bright light illuminated Alex, casting him into the spotlight.

Now speaking directly to Alex, the voice continued, "If you can understand me, nod or speak so," he instructed. Alex hesitated momentarily before croaking out a hoarse "Yes, I can…"

Alex couldn't help but notice how peculiar his voice sounded at that moment, a husky and scratchy timbre that felt unfamiliar and unsettling.

As Alex's voice echoed through the room, a sudden commotion erupted among the figures gathered around Dr. Caesar and in the room. Whispers and murmurs filled the air, accompanied by the shuffle of papers. After a short moment, Dr. Caesar calls for silence with a sharp gesture, and a deafening silence sets in.

"Do you know who you are?" Dr. Caesar inquired, his gaze piercing through the glass. Alex's breath caught in his throat as he struggled to respond. "Yes…" he replied tentatively.

"Can you give me your full name?" Dr. Caesar continued.

"Alex…" At this moment, Alex's mind suddenly went blank. Panic surged within him as he realized he couldn't recall his surname, a cold wave of fear washing over him.
