Ayanokoji and Syl were walking back together.

"Why would you take Horikita's side?" Ayanokoji asked.

Syl hummed. "I didn't really take her side, it was more like I rejected Kushida's offer. Besides, why would I work with the person who constantly lies and threatens the whole class, attempts to frame you, one of my friends, and also just threatened me today?"

Ayanokoji nodded.

Syl continued on. "Not to mention that she probably doesn't stand a chance against Horikita in the first place, let alone the external variables."

"External variables?" Ayanokoji echoed.

"You, me, Manabu."

Ayanokoji didn't reply for a moment. "Why did you include me?"

Syl smiled. "I told you, I'm good at reading people."

There was an awkward silence.

"... Then why would you help her? You two don't get along very well."

Syl took a moment to put his answer into words. "Well, she definitely doesn't like me, but I don't really mind her. It's kinda funny to mess with her, plus, I think she will change in the future… grow."

Ayanokoji nodded, he also thought she was on the path to growth, because he was forcing her to grow.

Syl smiled as if he could read Ayanokoji's mind. "Plus, she's one of the best in the class. If she gets serious then our class would become much stronger."

"... So is Kushida." Ayanokoji mentioned.

"If you have a benign tumor on your arm then you don't need to amputate, but if it's malignant, maybe you should consider it?" Syl smirked.

Ayanokoji was slightly shocked at the dialect of Syl, little would he know it came from the middle school knowledge reward… It was a really useful reward!

Ayanokoji could see Syl reasoning, but he had no way of verifying the validity. Basically, if something is cancerous, sometimes it's best to cut it off before it spreads, but if it isn't cancer yet, maybe you should leave it be and see if it will go away with some treatment.
