Chapter 16

Daniel dragged his feet into his villa after a strenuous search around the city. His head spun at a 360-degree angle, making him feel nauseous.

His feet dashed towards the dining hall, just as in the past. But when he got there, the table was empty, not even a glass of water was arranged.

He clenched the knob of the glass door with little tears in the brim of his eyes. He misses Amelia. To be honest, he misses her and wants her back.

His house felt dead without her. If she had to be here tonight, his food would be waiting for him, already served, and just as he liked it.

He remembered her fear-filled eyes whenever he appeared and clenched the doorknob tighter. He wanted those eyes, he wanted to see more of those eyes. He badly wanted those lime green eyes to be filled with tears for all the pain she cost him today.

Controlling his emotions, he dragged his feet towards the staircase and into his room. He stood before his door in dismay when he saw his clothes littered around, the exact way he left them in the morning.

Instantly, his blood boiled. He couldn't take it anymore. His red eyes widened and with veins popping out of his head, neck, and eyes, he yelled, "Diana!!!"

He aggressively walked towards his door, and slammed it loudly behind him, as he made his way to Diana's room.

"Diana!!!" he yelled her name again along the hallway like a madman. His fists prepared themselves and when he went to her door, he pushed it open without knocking.

Diana who was urged in the conversation she was having with one of her men did not see that coming.

The moment she turned in the direction of her door, Daniel landed an unexpected bone-crushing slap on her left cheek. Before she could recover from that one, he landed another on her right cheek and gave her an elbow jab in her rib area.

Diana's phone went flying to the other side of the room, and shock left her numb. She never envisioned a day like this. When he slammed her rib area so hard with his elbow, her legs lost their strength and she fell to the floor on her back.

She dragged her knees to her chest and hugged herself tight. Her first mindset was to look defenseless before him, so he would stop. Something in her told her he might have found out about her hand in his child's case.

But… but how? She made sure to erase every trace.

Daniel stood behind Diana and stared down at her. His feet hung in the air, as he contemplated if he should continue hitting her or not.

On second thought, this was the woman he loved. How dare he hit her? Daniel took in a deep breath and calmed himself. He started down at her vulnerable state and hated himself more.

Soberly, he knelt to her position and rubbed her head gently. Diana, who was expecting the worst for the first time in her life, was left speechless.

"I'm so sorry," Daniel's voice came out as a whisper, "I shouldn't have done that, I was so furious and never knew how to control it," he begged, giving her gentle pats on her back.

Diana slowly strengthened herself and turned to him. She searched his eyes. And knowing Daniel more than he knew himself, his eyes explained to her that he knew nothing yet.

Diana's confusion reflected on her face, and she held her hurting cheeks with both hands.

Diana pushed herself away from him, "Why… What happened? You hit me," she yelled.

Daniel walked to her on his knee, looking all remorseful, "I'm so sorry. I was… I was so furious, you did not clean my room and_"

Stunned, Diana tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. She scoffed as if he had lost his mind, "Your room?"

Daniel raised a brow at her.

Diana lost her cool, and began to scream, "Your room was messed up and that was why you slapped me? Do I look like Amelia or a maid to you?"

"Diana_"

"Oh shut up," she cut him off, with a wave of her hand, "Aren't you supposed to know that I can't do such work? My mother was the maid here, and not me. Have you forgotten?"

She went on, "Also, Amelia_"

The moment Daniel heard Amelia's name, he cut her off in a heartbeat, "One word from you about my wife and I promise to land my fists on you without remorse," he growled mercilessly.

He was gradually losing his mind, and he knew it. He wanted Amelia back, he wanted to hear her voice again. It's been a full day now, and he doesn't even know her whereabouts.

Diana clenched her teeth in hate. Her eyes traced Daniel's handsome features down to his lips, and she was tempted to kiss him. However, she wanted to understand something before sharing affection with him again.

Taking two steps back, she asked a daring question, "If you were to pick between the both of us, who would you pick?"

Daniel's eyes widened at her question. The question made him a bit nervous, "Did I not warn you about talking about her?"

"You never cared about this in the past. Rather, you watched and listened to me abusing her," she reminded him, "What changed now?" she questioned, deep pain in her voice.

Daniel turned away from her. He faced the door and rugged his fingers into his hair, in deep thought. His emotions were in chaos.

Everything in him picked Amelia no matter how he tried to deny it. However, he rather not say. Some things are better kept in the secret chamber of the heart.

"I'm hungry and I won't eat out. Amelia always made sure my meal was prepared and hot. So get ready and come downstairs to make a quick meal," he said changing the topic. With those words, he dragged himself to the door and walked out of the room.

Diana's heart somersaulted, and she fell to the ground after Daniel left the room. Her eyes watered.

Remembering she had just a short time left to kill Amelia off and be at peace, her heartbeat fastened. She clenched her hair tightly and repeatedly slammed it on the floor in grief.

Amelia took everything away from her and until Amelia does, she will never be happy again. For that reason, she needs to work faster.

Hmmm!!!
