Family Lunch

A week passed and the same situation that happened with Ms. Ji repeated itself with all the tutors. They would go to Ming Peizi study to report and sing praises to his daughters every time. What impressed Ming Peizi the most was that the teacher recognized Yunning as a genius, but who they were most impressed with was Ming Shu who they claimed to be a prodigy with rare chances of appearing in many years. As their Father, of course Ming Peizi was delighted with the news and rewarded both his daughters because of their performance.

He was also surprised on how well both sisters got along after they started to study together. He remembered that before, Ming Shu, as stupid as she likes to appear, would madly chase after her younger sister for them to play hide and seek or to show a new horse in the stable, but Ming Yunning would always hide herself from her sister. Peizi always thought that it was because she had more refined tastes than his wild elder daughter, but seeing how they got along these past few days that they came to help and train in his study, he understood that maybe there was an underneath cause to the distance she maintained, that is probably related to His beloved concubine.

Thinking about his concubine he recalled the talk he had with his Wife. Because he was really happy with Ming Shu performance in the music class, he decided to pay a visit to his Wife courtyard, where he hadn't go for more than 5 years. Entering her courtyard, he had a nostalgic moment, remembering all the good times he passed with his wife here. His wife explained that she was doing this for two motives, the first one was to attain a more peaceful house and the second one was because of Yunning. With the title of a main daughter instead of a concubine, she could marry better.

Impressed with his Wife generosity he promised to ask his Mother at the family lunch later that week. Even though he could decide alone, his Mother would cause a ruckus if not consulted about the change of status of Lady Ye, a person who she always disdained. He hoped that in the lunch that was happening right now, he could convince his Mother, since he didn't want to deny the only request that his Wife made after years of marriage.

After having the food served, the Main daughter of the Second Household turned to Ming Shu.

"I heard that cousin started her classes and even took the concubine daughter as her study partner. Cousin don't you feel ashamed to choose someone with a low standing to help you feel superior?"
