CARSON CITY, NEVADA
WISCON PALACE
Cameron's Point Of View
There was chaos and confusion in the court, but my focus was on my mate.
"What's happening to her?" I growled again, pulling my mate's body to mine. She was so hot. Really hot.
"Take her inside!" Zeriyah said, and immediately, I carried her in my arms and teleported her to her room in the palace. But I was teleported back to the Court.
What the hell?
"What happened?" Rhona was already at the door when she turned back to me.
"I don't know," I teleported to her room again and I was teleported back again to the Court. "Something is wrong, something keeps bringing me back,"
"I think it's the Crystal stone," Mirabel's words caused my eyes to fall on the glowing crystal stone next to Cyrene's lifeless body. It was glowing blue. And every time I teleported, it glowed brighter.
"But Cyrene's dead. It shouldn't have any ounce of magic left," The demon king, Daimon, uttered as he moved closer to us.
"It shouldn't," Rhona looked taken aback.
What the bloody hell! "That doesn't matter right now!" I growled. I could feel my eyes glowing, my wolf, Vittorio, was anxious, restless, and scared for our mate. He was a second from snapping and losing the littlest control he had left.
Mirabel grabbed the crystal stone, muttering a few chants and we were in Davina's bedroom in the palace.
I dropped her gently on the bed, while Rhona and Zeriyah surrounded her. Mirabel placed the glowing blue crystal stone on the bedside table next to the bed. I hated that thing here.
"What did that witch do to her?" I asked as they were chanting, hands linked together around my mate, not saying anything. Their silence grated on my nerves. "Is it bad?"
"Cameron! If you keep interrupting us, we will never know!" Zeriyah exclaimed, in frustration.
I hissed, stepping back to pace around the room.
Twenty bloody minutes later they were still chanting. And Davina's pulse had not gotten better. Her body was still burning hot, and beads of sweat had begun to form on her forehead. It was only the faint beating of her heartbeat that kept me almost sane.
Praise the goddess! They finally stopped chanting.
Rhona's eyes were the first to meet mine.
"Tell me, Rhona, what's wrong with her? What did Cyrene do?" I was losing it. My rage was consuming me. I hated seeing Davi like this. The last time I saw her in this state was when she died. When I had to carry her lifeless body in my arms. I thought I had lost both her and my daughter forever.
Oh, goddess! I didn't have the strength to relive that. She was the mother of my children and my life itself. I couldn't lose her not for anything in this world.
"You have to be calm, Alpha" Rhona started looking at me with one of those gazes that was enough to tell me Davi's condition was bad.
I strutted closer to the bed, with every bloody emotion I was feeling mirroring in my eyes.
I held her scorching body in my arms, looking up at them. "What's wrong with her?"
Zeriyah's purple eyes shifted from Davina to me. "I can't say of yet,"
Mirabel pressed down on the bed, casting a glance at the stone. "I suggest you leave now, we need to do more spells,"
My eyes flashed red in warning at her bloody suggestion. "Do whatever spell you want, but I'm not leaving her side,"
Zeriyah's lips parted to speak but she was interrupted by the opening of the door.
Everyone's eyes snapped to the door, but mine remained on Davina's pale face.
Blake cleared his throat. "Cameron," He took a pause. "The Council is requesting your presence,"
"They all can wait!" I growled, my eyes glowing red and black lines popping in my veins.
Carter motioned closer. "It's about your daughter, Cameron. Things have gotten really bad,"
My body stilled for a second and every emotion that covered my face vanished as I turned to Carter. I had totally forgotten about what Cyrene had told the Council about my daughter right before she died. They all knew now. That my little girl was the source.
My gaze dropped on Davina on the bed, before moving to Rhona.
"I'll stay with her. We will fix whatever Cyrene did," She assured in her usual soft voice.
I nodded, leaving the room with my Delta and Blake. My emotions were haywire. I had no idea what the Council had to say. But for the love of their lives, I prayed they knew best to play smart.
The loud murmurs and senseless chatters died the instant everyone's gaze fell on me and I walked in. The place had been cleaned up. I couldn't see Cyrene's body.
I gestured lazily with my hands in the air. "What is it?"
The court was flooded with silence. It was deadly, and enraging. It was obvious they had a lot to say but they all remained silent.
Oh, goddess! I didn't have time for this.
"Well, then," I turned around to leave them to their nonsensical gossip but stopped in my tracks hearing one of the elders speak.
"How long have you known?" It was Elder Noah, not my favorite, and neither was Vittorio.
I swerved to face them. "It's been a long day, Noah, be more direct with your question, would you?"
"The Tribrid princess, your lost daughter was the source of the very darkness that threatens us all. You knew this but remained silent," A member of the Dragon circle mustered the courage to speak.
I released a dark chuckle, tilting my head a little to the side as I listened further to their foolish blabberings.
"All this time, Davina knew the source Cyrene spoke of was her lost daughter, yet she didn't say anything. She's a member of this Council!" The elven king decided he was intelligent enough to speak.
"We know who the source is. That child is responsible for everything. We need to find her—" King of faes, Fredric, wasn't even done speaking when I abruptly cut him off.
"And then what?" My voice vibrated in a growl that made the large Court silent for a minute.
Elder Philip was up from his seat. He sighed. "Trust me, Alpha King, I understand your concerns," He started, but that was a lie. No one could ever understand the pain of losing a child, scouring the earth for eighteen years and still unable to find her. No one could understand that pain of a parent. But I let them all speak. "But that child—"
"My little girl," I corrected sharply with a deep growl. The members of the court flinched a bit, and elder Philip sighed, nodding.
"She's the source of a darkness we do not know. That darkness has been claiming the lives of many of us. Today was Cyrene and we have no idea who's next. Just like the prophecy said, that child is the root cause of all this madness. She will unleash hell!" A fae elder voiced.
"It's been eighteen bloody years already, she was not even born yet when you lost her. She has been with a dark witch all this time, you do not know who she truly is and what evil she's capable of. She may be the darkness herself, haven't you considered that?" The mermen King sounded.
An elder elf, Elias, started. "We have to find her, bring her before the Council, and do the needful in figuring out what alliance she has with this darkness. Hell, that's if she isn't the darkness itself. We all know, no one can truly apprehend the words of the stone. It doesn't matter if she's the King of Wolves daughter or not. Our priority should be saving ourselves, even if it means killing the child and—"
My eyes turned bloodshot red instantly. I felt the rage and darkness inside me take over, sharing control with Vittorio. I had had enough of the foolish blabbering.
Before Elias finished his senseless blather, I was before him in a flash. My hands dived deep into his chest, getting a grip of the beating organ he no doubt needed anymore. Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared anger me.
In one quick motion, I pulled out his heart. The whole court echoed out shocked and fearful gasps, staring in horror at the blood and lightless organ that covered my hand. I tossed it on the large oak table.
A sinister dark smile dangled at the corner of my lips as I took in a deep breath. "I guess I have everyone's attention now," Carter threw me a handkerchief which I used to wipe out the blood on my hands.
I turned to scan their horror-filled gaze, before allowing a menacing smile to run through my lips. "Let me make this clear," My eyes had a threatening gleam. "No one is touching a single hair on my daughter, not while I'm very much alive. I have searched tirelessly for eighteen years for her, and I've done despicable things to find her. To keep her safe. And I'm not about to stop now. She is my blood and I swear to the goddess, I wouldn't mind feasting out the heart of anyone—" I paused, scanning through their faces. "Whoever they might be, just to keep my little girl safe,"
The midnight air was tense, the court eerily quiet like there weren't almost a hundred, powerful supernatural species in it. They all looked at me like I had lost it.
And that wasn't far from the truth. I had lost it eighteen years ago.
When it came to protecting the only good thing this life had given me, my family, I was very capable of crossing all limits, and doing the impossible to keep them safe.
"This isn't a war, Hybrid," Elder Noah's voice was cold. "We already have too much on our plates to be gunning at one another,"
Elder Alex who has been quiet all this time was up from his seat. He strolled closer to me. "This is the time we remain united as we've always been and not fight amongst ourselves. It shouldn't be this way. We must remember, that each member of this Council shares a sacred bond that cannot be broken,"
I mentally rolled my eyes, keeping my sinister smile. "If you all had remembered this so-called bond, then they wouldn't have asked for my daughter's life on a bloody platter," They were all tongue-tied.
"As you said, we share a bond, but family," I smiled. "Blood. That's the only bond that cannot be truly broken. Since every one of you seems to have spare time on your hands, then please do look more into this said darkness the prophecy speaks about, because my little girl, she's not it. And while at it, do me a favor and try to have a better apprehension of Cyrene's words, my daughter is not the darkness. Now, if you'll excuse me," I turned around, moving to the tall doors with Blake and Carter behind me when I felt the most powerful energy sweep through me, ringing echoes of screams in my ears.
My body stilled for a minute. I swerved around, realizing they all felt it as well. Every one of them did. They all felt it and heard it.
Mirabel rushed into the Court, her eyes shining white. "Did you feel that?" I was still frozen. "That must be her. I felt her energy. It's powerful and dangerous,"
"Mira—" Someone tried speaking but she silenced them.
"With what I felt, we need to find her. In the wrong hands, that child could be capable of bringing hell on earth," Her eyes were on me. "We have to find her,"
Before I could speak, I heard my smartphone buzz with a call. I pulled it out from my leather jacket. It was a call from Benjamin.
I walked out of the Court, receiving the call.
"We've found her!" That was the first thing I heard Benjamin say, and I froze. I couldn't even form a word. Benjamin breathed out a smile from his end. "Theo and the team have gone after her,"
"How? Where is she?" I questioned.
"Oregon," Benjamin told me. "It seems like she's been in Oregon all this while. I've been trying to get hold of Asher, but no luck," He paused. "Where's Davi?" He asked, and I shut my eyes, imprisoning the tears that had begun to gather.
I couldn't tell if they were tears of joy or tears of sadness.
I breathed in, holding the phone tightly. "Something happened to her, Ben,"
His end became silent. I could almost feel his instant fear. "What happened to her?" His voice was colder and darker than the night itself.
