Chapter 7: Maybe it was Karma

Maybe this really was karma, Nikos thought, dazed as he sat on the hard concrete, a stolen purse in one hand and a worn tennis shoe in the other.

His face ached. He really wasn’t sure what he did to deserve this, but as a strong hand grabbed hold of his shirt collar, and he met the eyes of a very angry girl, he really wished he had kept running.

“How dare you knock down on an old lady, you thief? Don’t you know how to treat your elders, you mother-”

The girl’s anger wasn’t pretty. Inches from his face which she’d thrown a shoe at, she raged like nothing he’d ever seen. She cursed with every bad word Nikos had never heard. Her eyebrows furrow, her glare fierce as she shouted at him as if he’d truly done something despicable.

There was an unhinged fury about her that was unfamiliar and exhilarating.

As she called him every name in the book, cherry red lips spouting indecent insults upon his honor, Nikos thought for a second.

Oh. I’m in love.
