Chuunibyou Challenge!!

Chuunibyous are weirdos who believe in the supernatural. But, what's to say the supernatural doesn't exist? Matt Lewin, a former Chuuni, decides to live a normal life after a traumatic experience in High School. He becomes a college student and his life is going pretty smoothly... until he is once again thrust into the madness of his past. After meeting someone he used to know, Violet, he discovers the hidden truth of existence, and the role he has to play to protect it. The world is divided into two parallels; Reality and Fiction, and the barrier between the two is collapsing. It is now up to the very Chuunibyous who are despised by the world, to save it. Confronted with this very precarious choice, what path will Matt take? Will he continue his mundane college life? Or... will he join the Chuunibyou Challenge and save the world? * * * The first few chapters are slow-paced, but they build up to a very good payoff. I would advise readers to read the first five or six chapters before deciding whether they would like to continue.

Awakening The Power Of Darkness

Violet felt a rush of emotions when she saw her long last classmate from high school rush in to save her.

'Martin… he… he came back?!'

Had he been pretending all this time? He could really see the Link, couldn't he? How else would he have been able to come here?

Yes, Martin had just been denying what he knew to be the truth all along.

Why he did such a thing wasn't important. What mattered was that he was here, and from all indications he was here to help!

'He was a bigger one than I am. He has had the 'Enlightenment' longer than I have, so…' Violet knew he had to be much stronger than an amateur like her.

Unfortunately, she couldn't have been more wrong.

"V-VIOLET... W-W-W-W-WHAT IN THE WORLD IS GOING ON HEREEEE?!"

It was at this point, when she heard the vibrato of his tone, and she saw the cluelessness and helplessness in his eyes, that Violet finally realized the truth that had been staring her right in the face for so long.

'H-he really doesn't know anything?!'

Once that sunk in, Violet knew for a fact that the situation was hopeless. They were both going to die for sure.

'I'm sorry, Martin. This is my fault. I brought this upon you. I pushed you to this, and now…' Thanks to her indiscretion, a clueless, innocent person was going to die.

'I'm so sorry.'

The Minotaur grabbed Matt with its enormous hands, most likely intending to crush his bones and then swallowing it the second after.

After him, she was next.

Violet shut her eyes tight, unable to bear the sight of a human, being so brutally killed. She would still hear the nerve wracking sound of shattered bones, but at least she wouldn't see it… see Matt's death!

She didn't want the gory death of a fellow human to be the last thing she saw before her death.

And so, shutting her eyes while nervously expecting to hear the traumatizing sound of death, Violet awaited the end. However…

"Void Dar'k"

She heard a whisper instead.

Her eyes suddenly popped wide open, despite her fear, and they witnessed the impossible.

>BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!<

In a storm of dark flames—an explosion that consumed both the progenitor and the beast that held him—everything around them was absorbed in fiery destruction.

The torrent of wind caused by the flame's burning intensity sent Violet flying back, yet her eyes remained open, so as not not to miss a second of the unbelievable occurrence.

Swirling and turning and burning, the flames of darkness completely covered the Minotaur, reaching the ceiling, and consuming everything into its large cocoon of destruction.

It lasted only moments, but this black aberration shook everything and surged with unfathomable vigor. Thereafter…

>SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU<

… It was slowly extinguished.

The dark flames of destruction became mere flickers, and then, little embers, before turning into nothingness themselves.

"N-no way…" Violet whispered surprisingly, her eyes still bulging in amazement.

Everything within a ten mile radius—stopping just short of Violet's location—were completely consumed by the dark flames.

The entire ground became a gaping hole, and the ceiling was in shambles. Not even a speck of the Minotaur remained.

Only a glowing red crystal was left as a memento, and it sank into the crater the explosion had created.

"M-Matt!" Violet yelled weakly, struggling to stretch her hands toward him as he descended into the deep hole.

'H-he won't survive that fall! Not while he's unconscious!' Although she was awed by his display of power, Violet recognized Matt's limits.

Fortunately—

>WHOOOOSSSHHH!!!<

A pink blur moved and caught Matt just before he could descend into the massive crater. The blur swept through the air and landed a few steps short of Violet's powerless body, holding Matt in its squishy hands.

"Thanks, Tee." Violet smiled gratefully at her very disheveled Teddy Bear.

"No problem."

The pink teddy laid Matt gently beside Violet, turning back to see the extensive damage that was caused by a single blast from the unconscious lad.

"Unbelievable. To think he did that." Tee murmured softly.

It was something neither of them could dream of achieving—at least not with the power they currently possessed.

A Contracted Entity was only as powerful as the Contractor, after all, and Violet was still a rookie.

Granted, there were instances when stronger Entities took favor upon weaker Contractors, thus allowing the Contractor to wield power far greater than their level would allow. However, even at that, the power of the Entity would be suppressed by the limitations of the Contractor.

As such, no matter how powerful an Entity was, it was still subject to the limitations of its Contractor.

That said, without mincing words, both Teddy and Violet were weak.

"We're both noobs, after all. Hahaha…" Violet found it strange to be laughing despite all that had occurred so far.

She and Matt had almost died. Had Matt not intervened, they would have died in a tragic manner, yet it felt like all the possible sufferings they would have endured were mere fragments of a foregone reality.

"Hey, don't forget about me. If you die, I will stop existing." Tee said to Violet, crashing to the ground in exhaustion.

"Yeah. Of course, I didn't forget about you. I consider the both of us as one, you know?" Violet said, chuckling once again.

She felt her injuries slowly healing as her Magia was being restored. Magia served as the fuel for her powers, after all.

'It's strange. I don't sense any coming from him.' Violet thought to herself as she stared contemplatively at Matt.

One could never sense such abstract concepts as Magia in Reality—the physical world—so Violet had never expected to sense anything there. But now that they were in a realm of Fiction, she was shocked not to sense even a speck of it.

'Well, I'm not exactly adept in the sensory arts. Besides, I'm still a rookie.' She sighed.

A lot of what Matt did was above her league, anyway. She had no way of knowing what was happening, or how to explain it. There was one thing she knew, though.

"He defeated a C Class Monster by himself. That makes him on the level of a C Class Enlightened, at the very least."

Compared to her, an E Rank, he was on another level. After all, C Rank Enlightened were veterans.

This made Violet more confused, though.

"If he wasn't aware of all of this before now, how on earth did he get to such a level?" She muttered, staring emptily into space.

"Beats me," Tee responded.

Of course, Violet had been asking a rhetorical question, but her stuffed teddy had voiced out the same answer she had.

"What now, Violet?"

She sighed, staring at both Matt and Tee.

"I truly do not know."
