Choosing second to come first

It begins a bit rough but improves as it progresses just due to it being my first work, the world as everyone knew it changed, John though refused to bend or bow, well others seemed to be corrupted and changed by there choices John kept his sanity, or rather had no sanity to hold onto as the voices in his head that others beside his best friend dismissed as imaginary become more prominent, as he sets out to make his mark he learns the nature of the changes to the world, finding out more and striving to get stronger and to kill the so called gods who where responsible for it, but everything comes at a cost. So just a small heads up, it starts a little rough but I can promise it Improves as the chapters go on, a bit slow but it's my first real novel so hope you all enjoy it :-) Ps. This story is writing itself, so all the twists and turns are by its own choice as I'm just the one putting it on digital paper as odd as that sounds, share a stone if you like it and I'll also try to keep as consistent as I can with updates.

Chapter 95

Chapter 95

The strategist true to his title gave orders as the fight commenced, having the statues cover the weapon master and block any fatal or harmful attacks that could prove to be to much, the clockworks tanking blows and crushing the enemy easily proving there inhuman superiority, the Marauders at this point having noticed the weapon master cutting a bloody path through there numbers along with the statues and clockworks and turned to try and face him, hoping to keep using there numbers to kill him like they had managed to do so far only to be sorely mistaken, there ranged attackers where taken out easily by Ivy's phoenix seemingly adapting and changing from fire to ice and even thunder and ether at times, some being frozen solid, others burnt and electrocuted well the really unlucky ones having parts displaced by the ether qualities and any harm that did manage to befall the weapon master was quickly healed by Grace who seemed to be greatly focused on her job as support impressing John.

A few survivors who had seen Johns group focused intently on the fight tried to take advantage and attack them but met a rather unpleasant fate, Saya having pulled her sword and killing anyone who tried to attack them all well John gripped the scythe ready to attack as well.

a loud roar brought there focus onto the Goliath, well almost defeated it seemed to be picking itself back up and swinging at the ant like people who were trying even harder to bring it down.

"Noisy." Angel says, looking at the Goliath and raising a hand where an ice spear slowly began to form above her well Aria seemed to create a large magic circle infront of her, purple flames slowly forming quickly released soon after at the same time as the Ice spear, both impacting the Goliath, the spear causing ice to form and creep all over its form, the people attacking it caught off guard and quickly getting back, those who weren't fast enough ending up flash frozen, the effect going beyond the goliath and even causing ice spikes to slowly come out the slowly freezing ground but was quickly melted in a sea of blackish purple flames.

Arias fire having struck right after the spear burning outwards seemingly following the ice, the heat causing sparks in the air and could be felt even from where John and the others stood.

Grace and Ivy noticing this acted quickly, one setting up a shield over the group and the weapon master well Ivy seemed to conjure up a wave of water that hissed loudly when it made contact with the flames filing the entire area in a thick steam and blocking vision.

"The hell was that!" He all but yelled at the pair with vision now blocked from the steam but still able to hear the weapon master fighting, the strategist still giving commands but his hands infront of him and fingers twitching, the steam seemingly not bothering him in the slightest.

"Sorry master, this one did not realize that there magic would be that potent, this one is unsure the reason it behaved in such a way. This one will accept any punishment you see fit." Angel says, her monotone having hints of sadness in it as she looked down.

Aria looking just as upset as she avoided eye contact. "I think it's the same for Angel as it is for me but your world well not as pure in energies is far more abundant, or something is messing with this realm, it could be a side effect of what you explained to us, but all that is just excuses, we should have been more careful, sorry master." She says, her ears pressed flat against her head.

With a sigh John looked the 2 over, thanking Grace and Ivy for there quick thinking before asking if she had a way to clear the steam, as he wanted to know what was going on and not wanting to be surrounded or ambushed in the steam.

A wave of her staff and weird words where quickly followed by a light green gust swirling around ivy soon expanded out clearing the steam bit by bit till they could all see once more and greeted to the sight of the weapon master having switched to a pair of axes, wild laughter making it clear he was greatly enjoying himself as he took on a group of 4 hulking behemoth like people, each seemingly from a different factions as one seemed to glow in a white light, the other a obsidian black and looking like a titan of stone, the final 2 though seemed more like a creature than humans, there forms joining and spitting off constantly, there arms seemingly decayed and there faces non-existent, these 4 all faced off against the weapons master, the clockworks and statues semi frozen well picking off the remnants of the Chaos marauders that where left, the 4 figures though seemed to carry a strong oppressive feeling, there might alone giving John the impression of being formidable adversaries, he was gripped the scythe and got his chains ready, preparing to launch himself into the fray and help only for the strategist to stop him.

"My lord, rather go at the large stone construct, there should be a small gem and orb in its chest faintly visible, the humans there may seem formidable but infront of your warrior they are naught but cannon fodder, I can assure you that not just me but each of us that you have purchased have faced far worse and stronger beings than them so I ask you not to ruin his fun my Lord." He says, stroking his beard.

Turning and looking at the girls Ash and Saya seemed unsure but the rest all nodded, seemingly feeling the same way and confirming his words.

Choosing to trust him as it was his role John turned to look at the fallen form of what was once the Goliath, its rock like appearance now charred black, various parts crumbing off and falling heavy to the ground, the various survivors focusing now on his group and the weapon master, some with trepidation and caution, others with curiosity and hints of greed, giving the order for Angel and Aria to protect everyone but to do so carefully he asked Ivy to supply cover fire if needed well asking Grace to keep up the good work.

Before they could ask further, he launched himself using the chains, landing with a heavy thud and roll infront of the Goliath before using the chains like a demented Doc Ock to scale it to the area that was pointed out.

Surprised by his speed he quickly reached the broken chest of the Goliath finding the supposedly small gem which proved to be the size of his head next to a strange gyroball with many crystal like rings spinning slowly around a small sun looking stone with a blue almost pulsing centre, feeling it was what he was advised about he gently took each and placed them into his storage sack, as soon as he removed them though the Goliaths massive form seemed to begin to crumble beneath him, only through luck and rolling down its form before catching himself with his chains did he manage to avoid injury.

Unfortunately it seemed to draw everyone's focus onto him, gripping the scythe he prepared to fight, a warm feeling coming over him making him feel stronger and more energized, ready to take on the world which he might just have to do because of what followed next.
