26. Certain Uncertainty of Sudden Loss

The last faint rays of sunlight faded as the sun disappeared behind the shade of the giant tree.

I stood blankly watching, from afar, people returned to their home, reunite with their families.

The sight of a small child chirpingly clinging to its mother after a long hard day, cheerful laughter and warm atmosphere together made me more attentive.

Although almost all families are not well off, they depend on each other to live.

Thinking back to myself, I just smirked a little.

"Do you know? Life is truly ironic. Only God can think of such unfortunate fates. Look, manual workers, living a simple life, though always aspire to be well-off and rich. However, those who were born aristocrats, have no shortage of material and money, live a very unhappy life, estranged by their own relatives, without any friends, any joy in the slightest…"

"You are talking about yourself, the supposedly well-to-do noble's son, isn't it?"

"Oh? And how did you guess that?"

"You think I am a three year old kid or something!"

"Okay, okay. Knowing that you get it makes me happy too."

"Who needs you to compliment the obvious, stupid old man…"

She went ahead, her jet-black hair blowing against the wind.

We plan to stay at the market until the night, buying a few supplies for next week.

"It is going to be a long journey, so I do not want to see you starving, and I don't like starving either. Not like… I am worried about you or anything!"

She said that after seeing how bad I was last week, and now she wants to take care of everything.

Quite annoying, but somehow heartwarming.

The next generation of this Kingdom is not necessarily hopeless.

Young boys and girls like Lair and Rolas are still out there, and with the right guidance, they will become the people who change this country.

Rolas… Rolas… Wait, where did the kid disappear?!

I do not know at all. How is that even make sense!

Realizing I had strangely forgotten about Rolas, I ran over and reached out to grab Lair's shoulder, but then I just stood there, stunned.

She turned to look at me, from surprise, her face changed to confusion, then gently pushed my hand down.

"Are you okay? Don't tell me you fell onto something and hit your head, okay?"

I remain silent… There are no words that make me brave enough to speak.

Neither S nor Lair mentioned Rolas, not even once, or even just a pointless statement about him.

And now that I think of it, nor did anyone mention Duke Ress…

But why until now that I suddenly remember them? No, surely the others still remember, they just don't have a reason to mention Rolas or Duke Ress.

As well… as Lair does not seem surprised to know I am dead?

Sweat ran down my forehead, and my fingers began to tremble, showing anxiety and insecurity.

I am beginning to question my own memories.

No. That is not it. They... S and Lair were certainly unaware of my resurrection from the dead.

But a part of me was pushing myself to believe those strange claims, and that something bad had happened to Rolas and the Duke.

The more I thought about it, the more scared I became, about something I might not have known.

The extreme feeling of uncertainty.

"Raymond? Raymond! Get up, why are you falling down all of a sudden? God… What the hell is going on!"

"This is madness. My memory, I feel like it is not even mine. How can this be..."
