Chapter 2

While Shadow was hiding in his sponsor's aunt, he heard people outside discussing the upcoming race between Mcqueen, The King, Chick, and himself.

"Ah, how embarrassing..." Shadow thought as the muzzle of a truck appeared at the door of the tent.

"There's someone there ~" a voice said humorously.

"What's going on, Tom?" asked Shadow, eyes half closed.

"Mcqueen, King and Chick have already left, and Chick and Mcqueen are competing to see who will be the first in California to talk to Dinoco," Tom explained, sticking his head into his aunt's.

"Well, do you want us to go?" asked Shadow, moving forward to get out of the aunt.

"Yes, but I'd like to take a break on the way," Tom said, following Shadow as he climbed into the trailer.

"Embarrassing..." said Shadow as the trailer door closed.

"Well, he'll never change," Tom said as he clung to the trailer.

"I hear you," Shadow said as Tom started to roll.

Tom hit the road under the eyes of thirty journalists.

1 day later

"Hey Shadow, there's a road that leads to a small town and if we go there so I can rest," Tom asked tiredly.

"Sure, if you want, let me know when we get there," Shadow said as he drifted off to sleep.

In a remote village, we can see a dirty red car driving slowly, held back by a large machine.

"Seriously, I'm a famous racing car, I don't deserve to be treated like this," the red car says as a towing car looks at it.

"Well, he's going pretty damn slow for a race car HAhaha," the brown car laughs.

"What's going on Martin?" says a blue car.

"Oh Sally, what's wrong?" said Martin with a smile.

"I'm fine, so how's it going?" asked Sally, before being cut off by the sound of a truck.

Looking in the direction of the noise, they saw a black truck with gold designs on the hood.

"We've got a customer, we've got a customer," Sally shouted as she drove off to put every car in the village in its place.

In a small garage, an old blue car heard the noise and decided to get out to see what was going on. As he got out, he saw a truck with a race car trailer, which made him grunt.

The truck pulled up in front of everyone with a tired look on its face, then stopped to let the car in the trailer out.

Vrooom Vrooom

The car's engine purred as it slowly pulled out, revealing a deep black color with small traces of gold and a gold number 27 on the doors on both sides.

As he got out of the car, he looked around to see where he was before he saw a red car drive by with a large machine attached to it.

"Mcqueen....," the black car said parryingly, attracting the attention of the red car now named Mcqueen.

"Shadow..." said Mcqueen, squinting.

"Hahahahahahahahahaha, look what I see Tom," Shadow said laughing as Tom followed.

"Ha Ha Ha, stop laughing and come and help me get this disgusting thing off, I need to get to California quickly to talk to Dinoco," said Mcqueen with a fake laugh.

During this scene, everyone in the village looked at them with squinted eyes, wondering if Shadow would catch Mcqueen before he finished the street.

"Excuse me, Princess, why does he have to fix the road?" asked Shadow, looking at the blue Carrera.

"Huh... Me" said La carrera bleu, looking around.

"He destroyed our whole street and was judged for his crimes, now he has to fix everything," said an old blue racing car at the door of a small garage.

Seeing the car coming towards him, Shadow's eyes widened in surprise at the familiar car that had just arrived, before he immediately pretended not to have seen it.

Then he looked at Carrera for an explanation.

"Uh... sa ses passer comme Doc l' expliquer," Carrera said looking at Mcqueen angrily.

"Well, good luck Mcqueen," Tom said before turning to leave town.

"Wait, don't leave me here, there's nothing here but crazies," Mcqueen said as everyone looked on.

"You'll get used to it," Shadow replied as he headed for the exit.

"Uh... where are you going Shadow?" said Tom, looking at Shadow.

"I'm leaving, I don't want to stay here," Shadow parried.

"I'm sorry, but you promised we'd stop in a village for a while so I could rest," Tom said as he pulled up next to a gas pump.

"... All right," Shadow said and moved to stand next to Tom.

Hearing this, the whole village was happy, except for Mcqueen and Doc Hudson.

Then the hours passed with Shadow lazing around, he hadn't moved from his spot since he had set up, which left most of the villagers puzzled.

"Finally I'm done!" shouted Mcqueen as everyone came out of their houses to look at the road, which was...

Worse than at first, which made everyone angry.

"It's not my fault I'm a race car," McQueen said to defend himself.

"You have a race car? Then let's have a race, you and me, if I win, you go back to fixing the road 'properly', while if you win....you leave," Doc explained before looking at me.

"If I win, you leave and never come back, but if you win, you can stay as long as you want," Doc said before walking to a dirt track.

Mcqueen and Shadow followed him to the starting line where they stood next to each other.

"Hope you're ready, old buddy, California's mine," Mcqueen said as a little yellow car named Luigi waved the flag to signal the start of the race.

Vrooooom!

Mcqueen took off, leaving a lot of smoke in his wake.

As the smoke cleared, we could see that Doc and Shadow had stayed at the starting line.

"Oh, you didn't speed off to win the race," Doc said with a hint of surprise.

"No," Shadow replied curtly as he watched McQueen crash into a cactus in turn two.

"Ohhh," they all said, looking at him with pained faces.

"Martin, go get him, please," Doc said.

"Okay," Martin replied as he walked away.

"Good Luigi, restart the race, this time we're really going," said Doc as he warmed up his engine.

"Okay" said Luigi before he started to shake the flag.

"Go!" yelled Luigi.

Hearing the signal to start the race, Doc took off immediately, followed by Shadow.

Doc accelerated to maximum speed while Shadow struggled behind.

Shadow was glued to Doc and followed him like a shadow, never letting go. Doc, who was leading the race, was surprised to see that Shadow followed him perfectly, never narrowing or widening the gap between them.

Coming around the bend where Mcqueen had run into the catcus, Doc skidded around the corner to avoid hitting the catcus.

As everyone watched Doc with a look of confidence on his face, thinking he'd won the race, he saw a shadow pass in front of him, doing the exact same skid he'd done.

Vrooom!

As Shadow stopped the skid, he suddenly accelerated and hurled himself across the finish line at incredible speed, meaning he had won the race against Doc.

When Doc reached the finish line, he looked at Shadow in shock as an image of an old friend of his appeared in Shadow's place.
