"She did what?" Davian cut him off, his tone sharp, gray eyes stormy.
Lake flinched lightly, not expecting Davian to be upset at Matilda instead of him.

He had stopped wondering about his blatant bias for Lake, but it was one-sided, so Lake's feelings were valid.
