Chapter 17

I curled up in the backseat of the cab, my senses waiting for a monster to smash the back window to get me. However, it's been a while since we hear the screams behind us.

Feeling a bit ridiculous, while the driver gives me worried looks in his interior mirror, I straighten up as best I can. Barely seated, a monstrous headache seizes me, making me groan, however when I try to raise my arm to massage my temples, I feel a sharp pain. Gritting my teeth, I use my other hand to pull up the sleeve of my sweater, looking at my unsavory purplish skin, accompanied by a disturbing swelling. If it is not broken, it is still not far from it. I didn't realize it while fleeing because the adrenaline was blocking the pain. Unfortunately I can't take the time to go to the hospital, especially since it's one of the first places they will pick me up. In a makeshift solution,

" Complicated evening?"

The driver asks me after a while as I try to find a position that isn't too painful.
