“Does he go after the furniture at home?” Bull asked. “I didn’t see any damage. Doesn’t he use this?” Bull picked up Misch’s scratching post.

“Yes, normally he does, I rub catnip on it, but he’s in a new place. Could we put sheets on the couches until I know it’s safe? Those burgundy couches are beautiful; I wouldn’t want them ruined.”

Bull put the scratching post by the fireplace. Mischief came right up to it, stretched, and scratched. Then the cat went around the room rubbing the side of his face over anything visible.

“I don’t think we need to worry about scratching. What’s he doing now?” asked Bull seemingly fascinated with the cat.

“Marking his territory—he scent marks it with the glands by his whiskers on the side of his face. I think since he didn’t smell another cat he wanted to mark it as his.” Jamie picked up Misch and the cat bed and put them in his room to show Mischief where it was.
