Chapter 47: Nature and Howls

I offer for Connor’s pack to go first. And as I do, I realize that I recognize one of his packmates. Abby, the one who helped me put my pack together in the first place. She gives me a smile and takes a deep breath.

She looks around to make sure someone is ready to time the transformation. She gets a three count, then bends over as if someone just kicked her in the belly. She lets out a cough that sounds like half a growl. A few seconds later, she’s on all fours and looks like she’s grown a fur coat. By the time she finishes, seven point three seconds have passed.

“That’s still pretty quick,” I say. And it’s true; it took a while for most of us to get lower than ten seconds.

“You next,” Jonathan insists. I think he’s trying to make sure we don’t cheat. If his wolf also took about seven seconds, then we could be sure to win by taking more.

Of course, now I have to wonder the same. But Greg volunteers to be the one to shift, though he doesn't look happy about the idea.
